LEARNING PLAN

NAME: Whitney Illsley

Area that Requires Development
- As a soon to be nurse, I feel that continuing to develop all of the professional standards
of the CNO is something I need to strive for. Accountability, continuing competence,
ethics, knowledge, knowledge application, leadership and both therapeutic and
professional relationships are all skill sets that I need to develop further.
Learning Goal #2
- To become a well rounded nurse, by continuing to develop my professional standards as
per CNO.
Strategies and Resources to be utilized
- As I have learned during my pre-graduate consolidation, you are always growing as a
nurse. What my preceptor has taught me is that these are skills that you develop over
time. In the Emergency room, it is so very important to be accountable for your actions,
to invest time so you can continue to become more competent in your field, to maintain
and obtain more knowledge through practice and personal development, to attend inservices to keep up on your skills and learn new ones, to take on roles of leadership by
participating in important programs such as the Preceptor program, and to understand the
importance of maintaining good relationships with both patients as well as staff. As a new
nurse, I plan on achieving these goals by participating in regular self-reflection as well as
peer reflection. I want to eventually bridge to get my RN, so that I can acquire more
knowledge. I plan on attending in-services and participating in as many new experiences
as possible so that I can learn new skills as well as practice old ones. This will help me to
work on my knowledge application and continuing competence. I also want to take some
courses on communication and conflict resolution so that I can learn more techniques in
how to properly communicate with my co-workers and patients.
Evaluation Criteria
- I will be evaluated by doing self-reflections, peer evaluations and by doing regular
quality assurance. I will make myself a list of all of my goals and check them off when
they have been accomplished. I will ask for regular feedback and give regular feedback to
co-workers to develop my leadership skills.

Time Line
- These will be ongoing goals that I will continue to work towards for the duration of my
career as a nurse.
