Charm City Outpatient Nutrition with New Awards: The


Cutting Edge of Nutrition Therapy
April Recap
Conferences and Continued Education
In April, many of our very own
dietitians presented at the galaxys
most prestigious conference, Stellar
Minds Stellar Bodies. Joy Chen, PhD,
RD, LDN, CNSC received many
awards for her research on
micronutrient composition of
parenteral and enteral nutrition for
patients on home nutrition
support. Brendel Rosskamm, MS,
RD, LDN, CDE was awarded for
her research on gestational
diabetes education and
corresponding technology
development at Pandora Medical
Center. The Dietetic Association
stated that the medical nutritional
therapy approaches at Charm City
Health Cares Eating Disorders
Clinic were novel and
revolutionary, thanks to the efforts
of curricula development by our
very own Danielle Hertel MS, RD,
LDN, CSSD. Lastly, Andi Mong
MS, RD, LDN, CSP was awarded
for her efforts in food allergen
awareness and educational
development.
The conference was a huge
success. All of our dietitians were

able to participate in a variety of


activities, and listen to lectures
from world leaders in the field of
dietetics. We were also able to
participate in a round table to
discuss strategies for increasing
outpatient referrals from
physicians and other members of
the health care team.
Progress on Ongoing Projects
Our HIV outpatient dietitian is
pleased to be apart of Dr. Millers
new research on a new nutrition
and drug therapy protocol in the
HIV Clinic. The drug is in Phase
III Clinical trials, when paired with
diet and exercise. In April, 53
patients were enrolled in the study,
which is planned to last 6 months.
