"America's Youngest Outcasts." The National Center on Family Homelessness. N.p., n.d. Web.
11 Mar. 2015. <http://www.homelesschildrenamerica.org/>.
This website gives facts and state rankings that go state by state and gives an overview of
childhood homelessness and factors that contribute. The National Center on Family
Homelessness was founded in 1988 and is the nations foremost authority on family
homelessness (AIR). This foundation has been working exclusively with homeless
families for over twenty years which gives this organization more than enough credibility
to start this website without any bias. This website goes into slight detail about the
document Americas Youngest Outcast and gives me as the reader the option to
download the article to go more into detail and read the full report on the homeless youth
if I chose to do so. The website mostly focuses on facts that contribute into childhood
homelessness as well as the amount of children who are currently homeless. I believe this
source would be credible for my paper because it gives me a break down state by state on
the amount of homeless children as well as factors that may lead them to be displaced. I
believe that this cite is credible because it never gives an opinion on what should or could
be done to prevent homelessness, but instead gives me as the reader the other cites and
places I could visit in order to learn more about homelessness in the youth communities.
Early Childhood Mental Health and Homelessness (2013): n. pag. Illinois Children Mental
Health Partnership, Sept. 2013. Web. 11 Mar. 2015.
This article gives a different standpoint then any of the other articles I have read because
it goes into grave detail about how a child is affected developmentally, and behaviorally
when overcome by homelessness. Illinois Children Mental Health Partnership has been
around since the spring of 2001, and focuses on the improvement of child development

and aims to find solutions to child homelessness. Although this organization can be bias
on the way it presents information, I do believe that this article will help my paper
because it shows the mental aspect of homelessness. This editorial compares and contrast
the educational levels that children who are homeless and children that are not homeless
and how they match up. The article shows significant differences in children who have
shelter and who do not. This article gives a different standpoint on information because it
shows you exactly how children are being affected mentally and socially from
homelessness. It points out how many children who deal with homelessness have a
significantly more amount of having a mental illness than those who have shelter. I think
this article would be good to use in my paper, because it shows how homeless children
are affected mentally and developmentally unlike any other articles I have read thus far.
Stromberg, Meghan. "Shadow Kids." Proquest.com. N.p., June 2006. Web. 12 Mar. 2015.
The article Shadow Kids by Meghan Stromberg explores the difficulties that younger
homeless children face rather than adults who are homeless or adolescences that do have
a stable place to stay. Stromberg has been an Executive Editor for the American Planning
Association for ten years and has extensive knowledge and credibility when it comes to
the topics of living conditions. Shadow Kids gives a different view on what struggle
homeless children go through day to day. It compares and contrasts those who are adults
and are homeless to those who are in adolescence and are homeless. The article gives real
world situations in which the reader can place himself into the shoes of a child who
bounces from house to house. It gives social and emotional impacts on children that are
homeless and tells about the many factors that leave the children adrift such as sexual
orientation, sexual abuse, drug and alcohol dependency and many other contributing

factors. I believe this source is credible and would be useful to my paper because it
includes all factors that go into childhood homelessness as well as the day to day
accounts that teens go through in order to maintain shelter such as exchanging sexual
favors and trying to maintain invisible so others would not look down upon them. I think
that this editorial would be best used in my paper because it gives an uncensored detailed
account on what actually goes on for Shadow Kids and doesnt just mention statistics
and figures throughout the entire piece.
Walker, Jade. "Number Of Homeless Children In America Surges To All-Time High: Report."
The Huffington Post. TheHuffingtonPost.com, 17 Nov. 2014. Web. 09 Mar. 2015.
This developed article from the popular source The Huffington Post written by David
Crary and Lisa Leff explores the increase of child homelessness in America. As an AP
writer since 1999 for New York Crary writes featured stores on social issues, which
allows him to have extensive knowledge on the social and emotional issues that arise
when it comes to child homelessness (MuckRack). As for Lisa Leff she is an AP reporter
in Northern California that focuses on LGBT and issues dealing with the day-to-day
youth struggles (MuckRack). The article opens by talking about how homeless veterans
and men have had much attention in recent years, however the same amount of attention
has yet to be put on the children and families. This editorial looks at different factors that
can go into childhood homelessness and current programs that are trying to decrease the
ever-growing percentage of children who are without homes. This article also takes a
macroscopic overview by looking into other factors that may contribute to childhood
homelessness such as: cost of living, poverty, affordable housing, and domestic violence.
Throughout the article there are many different view points that are given such as people

who were once homeless as adolescences, single parents, and those who are trying to put
programs in effect in order to help those in need. As a reader I believe this source is
credible and can be used in my research because the authors never mention their own
viewpoints on the matter of homelessness but instead give facts of the growing issue and
show what is being implemented in recent times.
