Focus of Study: Follow up for each observation

(Photocopy one for each observation or prepare it using the electronic copy as a template)

Provide rich and informative information that includes examples and samples of conversations
you observed.
1. What types of things were the children talking about, playing with and/or interested in during
your observation?
C was talking to other children and interacted with the educator, first to help her and then for
help. C also self soothed himself and showed he was able to entertain himself and work
independently.
2. Provide examples of what the child/ren were doing how they explored their interests, what
they said to the educator or to each other, what types of things did they do in their play?
C was playing with connectors and straws, counting how many objects he needed to build, he
explored this by communicating with another boy. C worked at cleaning up and also
communicated with an educator. Another thing C did was lie down by himself and had a
conversation with another boy.
3. Developmental Domains: Explain the various developmental domains that were being
explored during the observation. Highlight one developmental domain that you could expand on
by identifying a developmental objective for an activity (i.e. language ability, ability to enter into
social play, interest in building structures but unsure of how to sustain a play structure).
Some of the different domains that were being explored were, social, emotional, communication,
and cognition. The domain that was used the most was his social skill. C showed his skill with,
interest in pleasing adults, cooperating, playing with a child of the same sex, increase in helping
behaviour, and demonstrating empathy. An activity that could improve this skill is, working with
a team mate of a younger age and working together to complete a goal.
4. Describe the topic of interest being explored in the room and how you could build on
childrens play interests.
The topic of interest being explored were free time and they could chose whichever activity
they would like to. On one table, an educator was doing an activity with other children but
the children were able to move around from centre to centre.
Based on my observation and interpretation of how I will extend knowledge and advance
development , my activities will be:
