    thiswouldbeunthinkable.Themajorityoftheworldsimplyturnsahandleandthereisinstantly
    cleanwaterflowingfromthefaucet.Thisisnotcommonlythoughtofasaluxury,itisjustapart
    ofdailylife.However,inAfrica,itismuchtoocommonforapersontonothaveaccesstothis
    luxury.ThelackofcleanwaterinAfricaisanissuethataffectsmanylivesindifferentways.
    Whenpeoplereadthewordslackofwateroneofthefirstthoughtsthatcomestotheir
    mindisdehydration.Notonlyisthewaternotclean,theresnotmuchofanywateratall.Africa
    beingthehot,dryclimatethatitisdoesnotreceivemuchrainfall.Manyhavetowalkmilesfrom
    theirhomestoriverstogetwatertobringbacktotheirfamilies.Theydothismultipletimesa
    week.AmericansdrinkasignificantamountmoreofwaterthanAfricans.OntopoftheAfricans
    drinkingless,theirwaterisalsocontaminated.
    Diseasecaneasilybespreadthroughthewater.Oneoftheothermajorproblemsin
    Africaisthesanitation.Thiscontributesgreatlytothecleanlinessofthewater.Thereareover
    twomillionAfricansthatdieperyearfromdiseasesthat
    couldbepreventedwithaglassof
    cleanwater(LackofClean).ThesediseasesincludeAIDS,diarrhoea,HIV,Malaria,etc.

    Access).Itisestimatedthatfourhundredfortythreemillionschooldaysarelostdueto
    waterrelatedillnesses.This,aswellasmanyotherfactors,contributestothelossofeconomic
    growthaswell(LackofClean).
    PeoplemaynotrealizethattheeconomicgrowthofAfricaisanarealargelyimpactedby
    thelackofcleanwater.ThewaterbudgetinmostcountrieswithinAfrica,inmostcases,iseven
    largerthanthemilitarybudget.AccordingtoKevinWatkins,
    thedirectoroftheHuman
    DevelopmentReportUnitattheUnitedNationsDevelopmentProgramme
    ,the
    accesstoclean
    wateristhemosteffectivewayofensuringeconomicgrowthbecauseitkeepsawaydiseaseand
    avoidsunduelossofmanpower(LackofClean).Withtheamountoflives,schooldays,and
    otherdetrimentaleffectsthatresultfromthelackofcleanwater,itdefinitelyslowsthingsdown
    economicallyinanegativeway.
    ConsideringalltheeffectsthatthelackofcleanwatercanhaveonAfrica,itisapparent
    thatthereneedstobeachange.Thepeopleoftheworldneedtobeawareoftheproblemand
    takeaction.Innocentpeopleshouldnotdiebecauseofaproblemtheydidnotcreatefor
    themselves.Ifeveryonegivesjustalittlebitoftheirtime,money,etc.theworldcanbechanged
    andlivescanbesaved.
