American Football Defensive Positions

Affective Assessment
Name__________________
In your groups of four, you are to come up with three defensive plays. Examples of defensive plays include man
coverage (each defensive player covers a certain offensive player) and zone coverage (each defensive player covers
a specific zone on the field). There can be blitzes (one or multiple defensive players try to run past the offensive line
to sack the quarterback) in both man and zone coverage plays. A man coverage play without blitzing will be
provided as an example. In your groups, come up with some plays which will be executed in a two hand touch
scrimmage. Be sure to name your plays and to include whether it is man coverage, zone coverage, or if there is a
blitz. If there is a blitz, you must indicate which player is blitzing by drawing arrows from the players starting
position toward where he/she is blitzing (main target is always the quarterback). In any play with man coverage,
you must draw a line from the defensive player to the offensive player to indicate which defensive player is covering
which offensive player. In any play with zone coverage, you must draw a line from the defensive player to the zone
of the field he/she is covering. In this scrimmage, there will be no defensive lineman but be sure to draw them in
any way to understand how play formation works
The Xs are defense and the Os are offense.
