This clinic is held in the College of
Optometry building. It provides an
educational environment where
nursing students, pharmacy
students, and optometry students
can collaborate care to diabetic
patients.
Role of Volunteer
Perform basic entry vital signs
Obtain a blood sample from the
patient and test for a complete lipid
profile and A1c
Obtain basic information about diet,
exercise, and self-care patterns, and
practice entering data into a charting
system
Perform a foot exam on the patient
Provide education as needed to
diabetic patients about their disease
process
Program Outcomes
Scholarship for Practice: Students will utilize knowledge gained from class and
evidence based research to provide quality care to diabetic patients.
Collaborative Leadership: Students will collaborate with other students in the
pharmacy and optometry studies to consolidate care with one diabetic patient.
Diverse Populations: Students will care for diabetic patients of varying
ethnicities, age, and backgrounds.
