During the course of treatment, blood tests kept showing unusual results that appeared to be unrelated to Lyme disease. Throughout the next few months, Dan had reached a point where he was having a hard time getting around. Having only minimal insurance and not being able to work, the mounting medical bills wiped out his financial reserves. Dan was eventually referred to specialists at Edward Hospital in Naperville, The Lyme disease had been cured, but the doctors were now looking into the possiblity of bone disease or some form of cancer. In December 2014, Dan was rushed to the emergency room with dangerously low blood levels. Over the next two months, he was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and started receiving hormone therapy. In February 2015, Dan received a second opinion and his team of doctors from the University of Chicago determined his cancer was extremely aggressive and recommended chemotherapy in an attempt to slow down the cancer that had now metastasized to the bones, bone marrow, stomach and lungs. At this point, the doctors have estimated a very short amount of time lef.
