I'm "wife"I've finished that (199)

by Emily Dickinson
I'm "wife"I've finished that
That other state
I'm CzarI'm "Woman" now
It's safer so
How odd the Girl's life looks
Behind this soft Eclipse
I think that Earth feels so
To folks in Heavennow
This being comfortthen
That other kindwas pain
But why compare?
I'm "Wife"! Stop there!

My Heart Leaps Up
William Wordsworth, 1770 - 1850
My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.
