FREQUENCY OF A POGO
STICK
Pogo sticks generally have a low
frequency oscillation but if a spring is
not meant for a certain weight than the
spring will be over loaded and will result
in a bottom out effect or performance
failure.
REFLECTION
During the time I have spent on the mass spring project, I have learned the real life
applications of springs and how they work. I started this semester with the intention
of pursuing a degree in chemistry and psychology and use that to apply to medical
school, but mid-semester I had an academic epiphany and decided to take a different
route. After volunteering at the University Hospital for a year and being exposed to
patient care, I found that I hold no interest in taking care of patients. Instead, I am
tapping into my passionate interest of psychology and anthropology, specifically
psychological anthropology with an emphasis in culture. I honestly cant think of
anything that would require me to apply this new found knowledge of mass springs
in my new academic choice. Now if I decided to go into health care, I could think of
numerous ways to apply this but that is not important now, we should not dwell in
the past. However, spring systems are often found in many every day places and
that in and of itself is important. Mattresses, cars, bungee cords, POGO STICKS and
the list could go on and on. Its important to know how the springs work, the period,
frequency, and amplitude because we gain an understanding of what the results will
be and how that can differ for each spring which can be poles apart for each
machine.
