1. Did you know today is Triple Negative Breast Cancer Day? Around 1520% of breast cancers in the U.S. are triple negative. Triple negative
breast cancer does not have receptors that are targets for treatment
we have today but can be treated with some combination of surgery,
radiation and chemotherapy. Days like today remind us how important
our mission is and how we as a community can help find the cure.

3. Survivors get ready for the Survivor Strut at High Heels for the Cure!
Studies suggest regular exercise after diagnosis with breast cancer
may lower the risk of recurrence and reduce the chance of death from

decorated heels that you can use during the race! Thank you Goodwill
Industries International, Inc. for donating the heels for our event! Our
Community Health Intern also talked about how physical activity can
improve quality of life for survivors.

Eating fruits and vegetables may slightly lower the risk of some
breast cancers. A healthy diet promotes overall health and may help
protect against other types of cancer and other diseases. You can find

series, Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies. Based on the Pulitzer
Prize-winning book by oncologist Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee, this
landmark documentary by Ken Burns and Barak Goodman airs on PBS

Buddies meeting Coliseum Health System! They talked about their
Mulberry Market that happens every Wednesday; we encourage you to
check it out tomorrow from 3:30-6:00pm! The survivors also learned
how to turn a t-shirt into a bag that they can use for all their farmers
market finds!

Being active is good for your health, but it can be hard to find
time to exercise. Do any activities you enjoy that get you moving (for
example, dancing or gardening). As we celebrate National Public
Health Week, here are some tips to increase physical activity:
*Use stairs rather than an elevator.
* Exercise at lunch with your coworkers, family or friends.
* Wear a pedometer every day and increase your daily steps.
*Use a stationary bicycle or treadmill while watching TV.

Did you know
April is Alcohol Awareness Month. Some findings suggest that breast
cancer survivors who drink alcohol after diagnosis have an increased
risk of recurrence.

A new study reported at the American Association of Cancer
Research annual meeting found that eating an early dinner and
forgoing midnight snacks may reduce the risk of breast cancer.
Increasing the time spent fasting overnight helps bring down blood
sugar levels, which scientists think could reduce the chance of
