Komen Central Georgia Internship Project: Social Media

When I got to Komen Central Georgia, they asked me early on to be in

charge of their Facebook. Previously they had not been good at updating it,
so it took that on as my project. We decided I could do two themes, Mission
Monday and Wellness Wednesday. I also did updates on what we were doing
and the happenings of Komen. I think overall it went well and they were
happy with my posts. Sometimes I would forget to do a specific themed post
if I got too busy with other work, but I tried to keep up with it. I also
Facebook stalked other affiliates to see what they were posting about. In
addition to Facebook, they asked me to work on their Pinterest account. It
had not been touched in a long time, and someone who previously ran it
didnt exactly follow the Komen message. There were very unhealthy treats,
alcoholic beverages, and non-Komen breast health messages. I made a
healthy eating and an active living board and made sure messages in
the be aware board were either from Komen or Komen approved.

1. Did you know today is Triple Negative Breast Cancer Day? Around 1520% of breast cancers in the U.S. are triple negative. Triple negative
breast cancer does not have receptors that are targets for treatment
we have today but can be treated with some combination of surgery,
radiation and chemotherapy. Days like today remind us how important
our mission is and how we as a community can help find the cure.

time to exercise. Do any activities you enjoy that get you moving (for
example, dancing or gardening). As we celebrate National Public
Health Week, here are some tips to increase physical activity:
*Use stairs rather than an elevator.
* Exercise at lunch with your coworkers, family or friends.
* Wear a pedometer every day and increase your daily steps.
*Use a stationary bicycle or treadmill while watching TV.

Research annual meeting found that eating an early dinner and

developing the disease. Read the full article here
