Grading Policy
Practice Goals and Recordings (15%)
Student will write down their goals for their practice sessions during a two week period
Goals will be specific skills that can be focused on through the current repertoire being
practiced.
Examples of goals will be discussed in class and can be further discussed with a director.
At least two recordings of goals being worked on will be turned in with the hand written
goals.
Students must demonstrate improvement from one recording to the next.
The recordings can be short as long as they demonstrate improvement.
Both written assignment and recordings are due every other Friday as specified in the
calendar.
Late assignments lose 25 out 100 points each school day they are late. One assignment
can be made up if a zero is entered for it.
Class Participation (10%)
Students will bring required materials to class (Instrument and all accessories, music, and
pencil.)
Students will follow classroom procedures, refrain from distracting actions during
rehearsal and always be ready to play when it is appropriate.
Students can bring in a note signed by their parents excusing them from participation
notifying the appropriate director prior to rehearsal. (Braces, Instrument repair, etc)
Each week the student starts off with a grade of 100. Not having music on any given day
will reduce this grade by 10 points while not having an instrument or accessory required
to play that instrument will result in a 30 point deduction.
Homework (15%)
Students will be assigned homework to be completed on a weekly basis.
It is encouraged that students work together to complete and fully understand the
homework.
Material will be covered in class.
Homework is assigned on Monday and due on Friday.
Late assignments lose 25 out of 100 points each school day they are late. One assignment
can be made up if a zero is entered for it.
Written Tests (30%)
One written test will be administered at midterm and a final test at the end of the year.
These tests be a culmination of the weekly homework assigned.
Performances (30%)
Performances are required and listed in the calendar.
Unexcused absence from a performance will result in a zero.
If a student must miss a performance, a Performance Excuse Slip must be filled out and
returned to the director for approval two weeks before the performance in question.

Upon approval, the student has until the day of the performance to turn in a recording of
the material to be performed.
Emergencies must be documented through a note signed by the students parent. The
student will still turn in a recording of the performance material by a date provided by the
director.

complete the following tasks. Students wishing to make up a homework assignment or
practice goal assignment may complete one of these tasks in place of the zero.
Students will write concert critiques of performances attended with proof of signature on
program from either a performer, director, or parent. Critiques are simply writing about
the pieces heard; likes and dislikes about the piece itself or the performance. Honor Band
applicants must complete at least three critiques throughout the year, while students
looking to make up an assignment only have to turn in one.
Audition for All-Region Band in the fall. Placement is not necessary.
