Connections to Prior Knowledge/Building Background:


TW have students answer the question "What do you know about the Holocaust?" in their daily journals. Students will have
three to five minutes to respond to the prompt. The instructor will informally assess the students knowledge by asking students
to share what they know about the Holocaust with the class. Students must write down at least three different examples from
classmates in their daily journals. These journals will be collected on Friday and graded for completion. TW clarify any
misconceptions that students may have about the Holocaust, as they share examples.

Nationalism in Europe lead to the policies
that created the Holocaust.

Students will take guided notes as the


teacher gives a PowerPoint lecture on the
Holocaust. After the lecture, students will
watch a small video clip about the
holocaust and how it has effected
history. Students partner up and create a
timeline of events that happened during
the Holocaust.

TW informally assess students during the


discussions and lectures asking questions
to determine understanding. Students
will also be assessed on their timeline
that they worked on with their partner.

The student will acquire English language


vocabulary and use it in relevant
contexts.

SW write and define key terms in their


notebook during the lecture. TW
highlight and define which words and
terms students need to define in their
notebooks. Students will also be required
to use the vocab as they create their
Timelines with their partners

TW assess notebooks for a completion


grade, to see that they are writing down
the critical information. SW be assessed
for vocab use on their timelines that they
turn in with their partner.

Wrap-Up:
TSW conclude the lesson by have a 5 minute small group discussion with their assigned groups, with the question being "What
was more of a factor in the events that lead up to the Holocaust, The Global Depression, or the rise of Nationalism?" Students
have 1 minute to present their reasoning to the group. After students have presented, there will be 1-2 minutes where students
can discuss other students points or ask questions of other students.
