Intro

Remind students of desired articulations for mm. 25-33

o Lifted on staccato
o Lifted at ends of slurs
o Remind woodwinds of double slurs in melody

Rehearsal Frames:
Mm. 25-33

After reminding students of the articulations we have already worked on in

this section, play once or twice listening to see if they play with the desired
style
If students of any section fail to play with the correct style, remind them once
again of the style and have them play again until they play correctly. Call out
sections or individuals as needed.
Listen for tuning and correct notes in mm. 26 and 30 during beat 4. Saxes
had a missed accidental before, so make sure that they remember the
change.
If time, build these chords that happen on beat 4
o Can go back to daily drill and have them all hum the tonic, then 3 rd,
then 5th
o Then have them hum their own note with the tonic on the drone
o In their minds eye they should hear and see their pitch, and be able to
find it immediately
o Can have them all hum their pitch, and then slowly come in with their
instrument when they have dialed in on their pitch

Tell the 3rds that they need to be flat and the fifths need to be 2 cents
sharp.
Get reps on this section to build habit strength with proper style, articulation,
and tuning
o

Mm. 33-45

Woodwind small ensemble starts this section

o Make sure it is a true dynamic contrast at the beginning of this section
Similar style and phrasing
o Model Tee instead of Too since this section is mostly clarinets
Horns and trombones with accompaniment Not too short with 8 th notes
Listen to just accompaniment part throughout and mostly focus on note
length
o Have them say tone, tone, tone while singing their pitches to hear
the desired note length if they are stuggling.
Timing during this section can drag as well so make sure to do reps with and
without the met.
o When doing reps without the met do not let them slow down, drive the
tempo with the conducting
o If tempo becomes an issue, have them count in the grid
Conduct while changing tempos, and have them count 1 & 2 &
3 & 4 &. This promotes eye contact with the conductor.
Get multiple correct reps for this section
Thank the students for their time
