Anticipatory Set (Hook & Agenda):

Everyone come to the carpet quickly and quietly.
*Allow students to come to the carpet and get quiet
We have finished learning new information on the American symbols so
today we are going to have some fun with what we learned!
Access/Review Prior Knowledge:
We have learned a lot over the last two weeks! I need everyone to
remind me of one thing we have learned about the American symbols.
*Go around to each student having them give you one thing they have
learned throughout this unit

Teaching Process & Modeling (Content is presented, accessed, or

built):
Since we have worked so hard throughout the last two weeks we are
going to use the knowledge we learned to have some fun.
Before we start with the fun I want to be sure that everyone still
remembers everything we learned.

*Have the students stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance and then
review why we say this each day
*Read the Salute to Americas Symbols article aloud to the students
*Be sure to stop when reading the article to talk to students about what
is being read and ask questions to help them recall what theyve learned
throughout the unit.
Guided Practice & Checking for Understanding:
I hope this helped you remember some things were learned about from
the very beginning when we first started learning about symbols and
traditions. Now before we start with our fun activity I want everyone to
pay super close attention to the directions.
*Be sure that you have all the students attention on you before beginning
*Form students into groups of 2 or 3 and have them sit beside their group
members while the directions are being explained
Now that you know who you will be working with we are going to have
an American Symbol scavenger hunt!! Now I need you all to try your very
best to work nicely with your group members and not be rude or
disrespectful to anyone in the room throughout this activity.
I will be giving each of you a paper that you will be completing during
the scavenger hunt.
*Hold the paper up while explaining the directions
So all over the room are pictures of the five American Symbols that we
have studied. Under the picture is a paper with a fact on it that you need
to read and see if it is right or wrong. Then on your sheet for the
scavenger hunt you need to circle yes or no to say if the fact is right or
wrong. Now the sheet you are filling out has a number beside where you
answer yes or no and there is a number on the fact that is around the
room that you are going to answer.
*Hold up the sheet and demonstrate how you would answer on of the
facts just so the students understand how to match the number of the
fact around the room with the number next to where you circle the
correct answer on their sheet.
*Have each group start out at a different fact around the room and be
sure that they know to go to a fact that doesnt have another group at it
already when they are moving around the room filling out the scavenger
hunt paper.
*Once the groups are finished have them gather on the carpet again and
go through the answers as a class by calling on the groups to see what
they put for each fact.
Independent Practice:
Wow! I am so proud of everyone for how well you did during our
scavenger hunt! Now when you go back to your seats you are going to
complete this activity book.
*Read the book aloud as a class then explain that they need to first
answer the questions on the last page before coloring the book.
*Send the students back to their seats to begin (make sure the books are
already in the middle of each table waiting for the students)
*If students finish early and have gotten their books checked they may
do one of the time burners
Closure:
You all did so great today! I am so proud of you all for all that you have
learned on American symbols over the last two weeks!

Declarative Statement Summary:

you have gotten your activity book checked and it is correct you may
