Responses
According to the other perspective police
officers use deadly force only when necessary. Proponents of this perspective argue that police use of deadly force is limited to situations in which the officer simply responds appropriately to a violent situation. Page 418
Many people believe that when a police
officer uses force, often to the point of a killing their opponent, that they are using their power within reason. And that if the officer reacts this way he is doing so with just causation.
Some authors argued that in official reports,
police officers inflated the level of threat posed by the suspects to give the appearance of necessity to legitimize their shootings. Page 419
Is there no way to check the reports that
officers turn in? Could we invent something that would always keep an eye on officers so we wouldnt have this problem?
Because questionable killings often involve
minorities, race has become the most controversial offender characteristic correlated with police use of deadly force, Page 419
This is still true to this day, this is the focal
point of my paper because races has almost been replaced as an unwritten crime whose punishment isnt time, but death.
Takagi concluded that the threshold of
suspicion for blacks was lower than that for whites when they were encountered by the police. He wrote that the police have one trigger finger for whites and another for blacks. Page 419
This is one of the points the Black Lives
Matter is trying to confront, by saying that they matter too and should not be considered more suspicious for something they can not control.
These studies often concluded that in the
majority of cases the use of deadly force by
This is the main argument of the All Lives
matter campaign, they believe that police kill
police officers was necessary in response to
threatening situations. Page 420
because they are threatened are not affected
by the color of the person, therefore they are no discriminant proving all lives matter just the same.
Disproportionate involvement in crime by a
particular group of offenders obviously increases the group members chances of being the victims of a police cause homicide. Such disproportionate involvement is often used to explain the large number of police killings of blacks. Page 421
If people of a certain race are usually more
active in crime then it is only probable that, that same race would have an elevated chance of getting murdered by police.
Matulia concluded that the most
important factor influencing the rate of justifiable homicides by the police officers is the level of violence in the community itself, even when organizational characteristics and departmental policies are considered. Page 422
Sometimes people can be at the wrong place
at the wrong time. But people cant control their living circumstance especially when its due to a lack of financial bearing.
The economic inequality and the
proportion of minorities in the population must be included in any future studies which attempt to explain the rate of police-caused homicide at the macro level. Page 439
In order to attain unbiased and sufficient
findings, one must consider all aspects of the situation and look at all the working factors of their findings.
