Organization of E-Portfolio:

The organization and design of my Final Portfolio Essay is quite simple. I started
with arranging the assignments in the order in which we did them throughout the class. I
choose to do this, as it will show how I have grown throughout this semester. The blog is
one of the first things that the reader of my Weebly sight will see, this is because it truly
illustrates how I have grown as a writer as well as how my research developed week by
week. After my blog is the Bibliography, this page is quick summaries of what I
researched and where I got that information. Then the midterm where I was able to reflect
on the work that I had achieved midway through the semester, this was important
reflection as it gave me an idea of what to expect in the coming weeks the finish out the
semester. In the final half of the semester came the Multi-Genre Project, this is where I
was finally able to present all of the research information to my readers. After weeks of
researching being able to express what I found to my readers was very relieving to me.
Throughout my portfolio I was able to use several modes of communication
including, linguistic, visual, and spatial. The use of linguistic communication or the
language that I choose to use to present my information came down to how I write. The
way I write determines how the reader would perceive the information that I presented,
so throughout the many assignments I choose to use persuasive language and information
to try to draw the reader into my subject. Visually comes with the Multi-Genre project
where I choose to use PowerPoint slides to appeal to my audience to inform them about
my research topic. Spatially I choose to arrange my drafts so that the reader could see
how each paper was developed through my writing process.

Each Piece of Writing Explained:

Each piece of writing throughout this class was necessary to what I learned
throughout this course. Starting with the blogs, these were the easiest pieces of writing
that were done throughout this course, but they had the biggest impact. This impact being
that with each blog post that was done I was getting my ideas out on paper and answering
questions about my research along the way. When it came down to writing my MultiGenre project where I explain my research these blog posts were most helpful. Next the
Multi-Genre project, this is where I got to express the research that I had been collecting
and provide it to my readers. With the use of the PowerPoint and a news article I was able
to inform my readers with the research that I had done. The Multi-Genre project
introduced me to expressing my research in new ways outside of the normal direct
research paper. Collecting that research came with the Visual Bibliography, this is where I
stored my research as I found it. My bibliography is where I would write down my
research question and then go do the research to answer that question. Keeping all of my
research in one area made it easier to see what areas I had already explored and where I
should go next. The bibliography taught me how to better collect information and how to
later provide that research to my readers. The midterm was an important milestone,
halfway through the class. It provided me with the understanding of what was to come
and what would be expected out of my writing. The midterm. By explaining what the key
concepts of this course were I was able to apply this to my research by how I collected it
and later explain my research.
Finally I choose to include two assignments from Engineering Technologies 1201.
Throughout this course there were many writing assignments including lab reports and

long essays. I choose to include a lab report to illustrate to my audience what would be
expected of them while in school for the Construction Management degree. As this class
was my first engineering class there was a learning curve to adjusting to writing lab
reports. With this lab report provided to my reader it can show them some of the
expectations and the layout of a lab report. Secondly is an essay that was written about
my passion. My passion is to become a construction manager and help my community. I
chose to provide this paper to my reader to make them understand that to be in the
Construction Management degree you must have a passion for it. The Whole Life
Concept paper was also written using some of the information that I found while
researching my topic so I found that the classes were overlapping in some ways.

How I Have Developed:

Looking back on what I have achieved throughout this class I am also able to see
how I have developed as a writer. The blog posts represent how I have developed
throughout this course the best. Starting with Blog Post #1 where I am stating my
research questions such as: With a degree in Construction Management what kind of
would could I expect to be doing right after graduating college? this is where I
discovered what I would be researching throughout this semester. Going from there to
Blog post #6 where I am struggling to discover my audience. This was the hardest step of
the overall writing process for me. Not knowing whom I was writing to and was quite
confused with whom I was writing to. At that time my thinking was that My current
thinking is I have no audience to really write to besides my professor. I understand that
my professor is the only person giving me a grade on this paper so you write to them to

please them to get the grade. But after writing this and thinking on it for a few weeks I
was able to develop my audience finally stating my audience in Blog Post #9 where I
revisited the previous Blog Post #6. Finding my audience is a very important part of
the research as it is the point of doing the research. When I didn't have an audience I was
just finding general research that could apply to my topic. But after finding my audience I
was able to find greater research and research that has more detail. From there on I knew
that my audience was those who were interested in the Construction Management major.
Finding my audience shows how I was able to develop as a writer over the semester
class. Also looking over each writing process you can see how I develop from draft to
draft; so it is not just my writing developing over a semesters worth of time but also
within each paper that I wrote.
The work that I went back to revise and edit was highlighted, from my
Bibliography where I went and conducted more research to answer new questions that
rose while writing the Mulit-Genre Project. In the Midterm where a quote was needed to
better explain what I was trying to present to my audience. Then corrections from
grammatical and citations that were missed were corrected in the Multi-Genre Project.

Key Concepts:
Throughout this course I was able to address several of the ten Key Concepts
including: critical thinking, responsibility for my own learning, and making connections
just to list a few. The critical thinking was used with every paper that was written
throughout this course. Having to think about what I was writing about and then
expressing that thought into words was how I used the critical thinking key concept. In
college through each class you are solely responsible for your own learning. With that
being said I was responsible for my own learning throughout this course, no one else was
going to writ any of the papers for me. If I didnt do the work then I wouldnt make the
grade that I want, it all came down to how much time and effort I put into this course, but
no one else would do it for me. This key concept is one of my favorite because of how it
can be implemented into any class I take, and in many other instances throughout life.
Finally, the making connections key concept; this key concept was most helpful to me
when it came to writing the Whole Life Concept paper which is included in the
Engineering Work section of my e-portfolio. The making connections key concept is
important to use as connecting class information makes it easier to learn and comprehend.
That is what I was able to do with the Whole Life Concept paper as it was about my
passion for engineering and how I would apply that passion. The information that I was
able to gather from my research in this class I was able to apply to this paper, making a
connection. These key concepts as well as the other key concepts are important to
understand as they can benefit your learning through any course.

Grade I Deserve:
Looking back over this course I can see how I have developed as a writer and how
this course has helped with that. When it comes down to what grade for the work I have
put forth I would have to say it would be between an A or B. The work that I have done
has been to the requirements, but nothing too special that would be considered going
above and beyond. With writing every paper I would set time aside to ensure that each
paper was to the best of my ability. Ultimately, the grade comes down to my instructor
and I know that she will make the right choice. Ive enjoyed this past school year with
you Ms. Ingram; I have developed as a writer because of you and thank you for that.
