Annotated Bibliography

A bibliography is a list of sources (books, journals, websites, periodicals, etc.) one

has used for researching a topic. An annotated bibliography is a bibliography that
includes a summary paragraph addressing the credibility and relevance of the
source.
Directions: Create an Annotated Bibliography for all the sources listed on your ProCon Notetaker Handout. Make sure that:
Each bibliographical citation follows the MLA format (use Easybib.com for
proper formatting).
Each summary paragraph includes a sentence or two that addresses the
credibility of the source and a brief restatement of the issue, conclusion,
and reasons of the source.
All sources are listed alphabetically by authors last name (if no author exists,
use the first letter of the title).
The Annotated Bibliography is double spaced, uses hanging indentation, and
typed in a professional font and size.
Scoring Guide
A Annotated Bibliography meets all the following criteria
Citations follow correct MLA citation
Incudes at least 3 credible sources
Citations are ordered in alphabetical order, use hanging indentation, and is
double spaced
Summary of each source describes the credibility of the source and its issue,
conclusion, and reasons
No grammatical, spelling, or punctuation errors

Annotated Bibliography meets all of the A criteria with some minor errors or
omissions
C
Annotated Bibliography meets 3-4 of the A criteria

Example Annotated Bibliography Entry:

Rifkin, Jeremy. "A Change of Heart About Animals." A Change of Heart About
Animals. Common Dreams. 1 Sept 2003. Web. 23 Jan. 2013.
Though the author does not have a background in animal science, he is involved in
public policy related to science topics. In his article, he cites multiple sources and
studies from credible universities and organizations. Rifkin addresses the issue of

what science has discovered about animals and concludes that animals in fact are
very much like humans. He gives multiple reasons of how animals are capable of
demonstrating similar emotional and cognitive depth as human beings.
