Team Name: Rhinos

Stakeholders: A.B.
List the stakeholders in this project. Who will be most impacted by your project? Describe how
each stakeholder will be impacted by or involved in this project.

Who
How
- Buyers of palm oil
- Will have to adapt to eating less products with palm oil
- Take action (actually not buy products with palm oil)
- Spread the word to others
- Companies that use
- Will lose some money, and hopefully use palm oil f rom
palm oil
palm oil f arms, instead of f orests (so people will buy their
product again)
- Wildlife (Rhinos)
- Will lose less habitat, and not be as much risk of extinction
- Many species will have better habitat
- Palm oil harvesters
- They will lose money because there will not be as much
demand
- This will hopefully convince them to go to growing and
farming it (because it will make people buy it because it
wont be destroying the environment) .

Global Issue/Challenge - A.B.
Describe the issue you are addressing in two sentences
The issue that is being addressed is loss of habitat f or the rhinos and many other species. At the
same time our also addresses climate change because there wont be as many trees being cut
down.

Evidence o f Issue/Challenge - D.B.
In a brief, well-written paragraph, explain how this is a problem and convince audience why it
needs to be solved. This needs to include specific and compelling evidence.
Trees are the most essential source of oxygen, and when deforestation happens it both stops
taking in carbon, and emitting carbon. The tropical rainforests alone emit well over 20% of all
oxygen in the air at any one time, and unfortunately that is where a large number of palm oil
plantations are being built. P alm oil is one of the main causes of deforestation. 50% of all
consumer goods contain palm oil, which means that an enormous amount of trees must be cut
down in order to obtain this palm oil. When trees are cut down they emit a large amount of

carbon which is greatly effecting climate change. When the climate changes then it creates larger
and more f requent natural disasters, which end up destroying f orests. There are many problems
that all branch off of palm oil and deforestation including, more climate change, the destruction of
ecosystems, and with that, the animals living within it.

Action plan - A.B.
Describe your plan to address this issue/challenge in four sentences
Our plan to address the habitat loss of the rhino is to decrease the amount of products bought
with palm oil. Our plan will start at Breck School by doing our best to eat f ood without palm oil.
Then we will start to put signs/fliers up making people aware of the effects that cutting trees
down to get palm oil has on the environment and on the animals living in it. We will also put
pictures of common, non-essential products that have palm oil on the f lier. We will put these
signs close to f ood stores to make people think about it as they are shopping, and hopefully they
will limit their use of palm oil.

Project Goals S.D.
Describe what you hope to accomplish with this plan
1. Raise awareness about deforestation and habitat loss.

2. Decrease the amount of palm oil that is being used at Breck and at a local level.

3. Recover the rhino population and the population of other animals whose habitat is being
destroyed.
