Directions: Using the template below, describe how students could use a blog, wiki, or other websitecreation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that
reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that
students assume adult/professional roles; engage in higher-order thinking; and use technology
create/publish original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The
learning activities and products should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: S5CS1. Students will be aware of the importance of
curiosity, honesty, openness, and skepticism in science and will exhibit these traits in their own efforts to
understand how the world works.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: All students will be divided into groups of 5 students. Each
group will choose from a list of science experiments to conduct. Each group will have a group leader that
will create a free blog site for the science experiment. All students will a.) keep records of investigations
and observations, b.) carefully distinguish observations from ideas and speculation about those
observations, c.) offer reasons for findings and consider reasons suggested by others and d.) take
responsibility for understanding the importance of being safety conscious all through authoring entries to
the blog. Blogs will be private and only available to students of class and teacher. A final presentation of
the science experiment will be a short explanation entry with pictures to show conclusion on blog.
Students will compete to win where the winning team will share their blog on the school website.

Student Engagement: This project is standards based and authentic while student directed. The students
is the explorer, teacher and producer whereas the teacher is the guide and facilitator. This project is
collaborative and performance based. All aspects of engaged learning are addressed.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):The LoTi level of this project is a level 5. Students are
using technology central to the activity. Research is conducted using safe internet sources, reports are
documented using entries to the blog, communication is sent via email and blog entries among members of
research team and final presentation is published on blog via internet using written conclusions and
showing pictures of documented explorations.
Importance of technology: Using technology keeps the records of the observations, ideas, findings,
reasons and other communication organized and easily accessible to all members of the team. Also
students are learning how to further their technology skills and how it is used in real life authentic
situations.
Inspiration (optional):
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: According to state policies, names of students as well as student
work cant be published to the internet without parental permission. All blogs should be completely private
and outsiders should have no access to students work and names. When final winner is chosen and blog is
published to school website; parent permission as well as administrative permission should be granted.
First names should be used only for students and location of students, school and such should not be
included in blog site.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. This activity is to help motivate students to use
higher order thinking when learning standards by using a real world activity that is exciting, competitive
and creates something they can share with peers and family.
