Contempt by publication
Law on contempt by publication must balance the right of a defendant to a
fair trial.
The impact of the new media
May of the contempts which they are examining are contained in the
contempt of court act 1981.
Contempts committed by jurors
In relation to contempts committed by jurors, there is also a need to
ensure that the laws and procedures strike a balance of 3 things; public
interest of justice, defendants right to a fair trial and the rights of the
jurors.
Contempt in the face of court
The powers of the criminal courts to deal with contempt committed in the
face of the court are unsatisfactory.
Reporting restrictions
The court have the power to postpone, where its necessary to avoid
prejustice.

Libel and defamation
A low that protects an individual reputation it allows people to sue for damage
to their reputation.
Defamation an area of law that provides a civil solution when someones words
cause harm to your life.
Coverage of elections
This is built into broadcast codes; The Ofcom Broadcast code has detailed rules
on impartiality that broadcasters must follow during election periods. One of the
rules state:
Equal coverage must be given to all major parties during the election,
broadcasters must also consider giving appropriate coverage to other
parties and independent candidates
The BBC doesnt follow these codes, they however have their own guidelines
they must stick to.
In 2008 Ofcom fined radio station talksport after trying to encourage listeners tp
vote for Boris Johnson Conservative candidate for the London mayoral elections
while criticising a labour candidate.

TASK 2
1.
Sensational stories when these stories are not ones that effect listeners
lives, but easily attract attention. BBC 3
60 seconds news, the
reporter is not going into much detail about each story, as he is showing
images that relate to the story, which attracts the attention of the
audience as sometimes they can be disturbing.
2. The ethical issue to this article is that the public or the paparazzi are
intruding the privacy of the Dutch and Duchess. Which means the
paparazzi have the effect of making people make decision, which is what
they did to magazine companies with pictures of William and Kate on a
private holiday. There were four pages in Closer magazine, one being a
topless picture of Kate sunbathing. Invasion of privacy is when everyone
has a basic right to privacy, however stories about peoples private lives
appear on the news on a daily basis. These stories are often justified as
being the publics interest.
3. Another example of invasion of publicity would be when Amber Rose
insulted the Kardashians over twitter. This is making the family look bad
as the Kardashians have a basic privacy like everyone else. Also because
twitter is a place where peoples private lives appear to the public for
them to read. However this increases the popularity of both celebrities and
gives them publicity.
TASK 3
1. The stories are both about a young child Maria be taken by 3 gypsies
Romanians, with DNA to prove that the child has been
