Describe how you would Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing
Opportunity in your classroom: The students will be formed into groups, and
each group will be assigned a computer. On the computers, the students will work
together to research the basic needs of the hummingbird (food, water, air, and
shelter.). The students will also describe the actual hummingbird, which will
include their appearance, motion, growth, and basic needs. The information
collected will be put into a PowerPoint created by the students, which will then be
posted on the classroom blog.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed
learning activity in a classroom? The only piece of technology needed for the
learning activity is a computer for each group.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning
experience (note: all of them may not be addressed in the project, but
most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level.):
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their
classroom and often beyond their school: There will be no need
to collaborate outside the classroom.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting
original data and or producing original products as a result of
engaging in the project): The students will be collecting the data
off the computers.
c. Higher-order thinking: The students will have to take the data
collected and create a PowerPoint.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will
use/care about their product: The PowerPoints will be published on
the classroom blog

What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning
activity and Why? The LoTi that would best describe the learning activity is
level 3 or 4 because the students are using the internet to collect data about the
hummingbirds, then using that information to create a PowerPoint.
How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still
comply with your districts Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies?
The best way to comply with the districts Internet Safety and Student Privacy
Policies is to have the Journey North site already on the computer prior to allowing
the students to work on them. Also, monitoring the students and their activity on
the computers will help keep them safe. Having permission from the parents to
allow the students to publish their PowerPoint online will ensure that there will not
be any privacy issues.
