Presented by Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts and SLP Concerts
Tickets are $65.00, $42.00 and $32.00
$75 tickets include Dweezil Zappa Guitar Masterclass, Soundcheck party and poster
Whitaker Center is excited to welcome back Zappa Plays Zappa this summer for their One SizeFits All
th
40 Anniversary Tour. The rock band known for carrying on the legacy of Frank Zappas talent is certain
to draw a crowd. Tickets go on sale on March 13, 2015.
As a benefit of a $75 ticket purchase guests are invited to learn techniques from the son of Frank Zappa
and bring your guitar for "Dweezil Zappa Guitar Masterclass- Dweezilla On The Road." Dweezil Zappa's
music camp Dweezilla has a motto "Learn And Destroy which refers to destroying the boundaries that
confine music creativity. While on tour with Zappa Plays Zappa, Dweezil will be previewing some of the
guitar concepts he teaches at camp in a special masterclass. The Dweezil Zappa Guitar Masterclass will
start at 2:30pm. In addition, the Soundcheck Party will start 90 minutes before the concert and will last
approximately 45 minutes.
As a child in the Zappa family home, Dweezil Zappa recalls idolizing his father's amazing musical gifts as
a composer and guitarist. After his father passed away in 1993 he felt moved to do something to honor
Franks life and pure talent; thus Zappa Plays Zappa emerged.
Dedicated to keeping Frank Zappas sound alive, Zappa plays Zappa embodies the familiar and authentic
rock style of the legendary artist. Dweezil Zappa, Scheila Gonzales, Ryan Brown, Ben Thomas, Chris
Norton, and Kurt Morgan make up the talented group of musicians. The band uses their abilities to
continue Zappas musical tradition, down to the classic Halloween show in New York Frank Zappa
performed every year. Lead guitarist, Dweezil Zappa says, We are the conduit for people to hear Franks
music; we really want the music to go into the future being known for what it is.
Similarly to Frank Zappas bands, a pattern of change in members occurred in Zappa Plays Zappa. The
first changes came about in 2010 and proceeded into 2012 with the reduction from eight members to six.
Interestingly enough, throughout the years, the band maintains some original members who played with
Frank Zappa.
The globally recognized music group achieved great success in 2009 when they won a Grammy Award
for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, honoring their instrumental Peaches en Regalia performance.
In addition, their growing fan base in multiple countries testifies to the bands admirable talent.
