Midterm

Through the beginning of this project I was able to engage with two key concepts that I
understood. I was able to take meaningful information and actually do something with it and use
it for the future (final E-Portfolio). I was able to take my inquiry question and connect it to many
aspects of my life and observations. Making connections helps my readers and I better
understand the information that is presented. On my second source of my columns my
connection referred to my summary about how we become comfortable with our loved
ones/family members, This is how my Dad and I act towards each other. I also have observed
others with their parents and siblings. I also make connections in class when my peers talk
about their inquiry thoughts and questions. I also strongly engage with independent inquiry and
curiosity. I have always been curious when it comes to research, I make up different questions
and scenarios. I am especially curious about my inquiry question since it is about psychology and
sociology. In class when others present ideas and questions I think about different ways to
interpret them and research them. Providing and receiving feedback is something I have grown
into and something that I often engage with in class. In my past and present groups I have
received good and bad feedback and have given good and bad feedback. I have developed a
better understanding of how to give resourceful feedback to my peers.
I have also grown in the Revision process mainly because I learned how to better
appreciate my teachers comments and guidance for revisions. Using my peers advice and ideas
helped me create more engaging writing. When it came to choosing my genres for my multigenre project I made sure I took advantage of multi-modality of print & digital texts. I chose to
make a flyer and a religious brochure to visually reach out to my readers.
I have definitely encountered some challenges over the course of my writing career in
school but one in particular is writing process and revision. I have never really had a set writing
process or anything that I do in particular when I write. Its just not my passion probably because
I have always had to do it for a grade based on something I was not interested in. Revising on the
other hand was not always easy for me. I still struggle with things I need to add, fix, etc. Most of
my revisions from last semester were trying to add more dialogue and think about my readers
view. Also revising how my papers flow. Peer editing and getting other peoples view on my
writing helped a lot. One example of that is when Olivia DeBerry re-wrote an introduction and

conclusion of mine: Going to English class I wore a burden on my back rather than a book
bag. I think that I will better engage with this as I add new information from my topic and get
guidance from peers/librarian. Getting out of my comfort zone while writing has also been a
challenge for me. This semester it would probably be not asking enough questions and not being
engaged enough because some things are just not in my interest. The second half of class I plan
to better engage with being interested and involved in class. For example, I need to challenge
myself and ask myself what I could do to be more engaged.
This semester so far has shown me how to open my eyes to new ideas and really focus on
others way people could look at my topic. I was shown something that was right in front of me
that I had not recognized before; look at my topic from a Biblical perspective. I really liked that
idea and it gave me a new pathway on what should be included and how my Multi-Genre Project
should be made.
