Dear Hiring Manager:

Please accept the enclosed application to teach in the Primary/Junior division at your School. I
am currently enrolled at the Faculty of Education at the University of Windsor awaiting
registration from The Ontario College of Teachers. The combination of my education, relevant
experience, and commitment to lifelong learning will enable me to help prepare your students
academically and socially for the 21st century.
As a constructivist educator my goal is to deliver the curriculum in a meaningful manner that
allows students to connect their learning to the real world, which enables them to become active
participants in their education. I believe that establishing a learning environment which fosters
critical thinking, compassion, and intelligence is imperative for student success.
During my undergraduate studies in efforts to gain more knowledge and skills for being a future
educator, I took on various international teaching opportunities that exposed me to various
cultures, teaching methods, and children which required me to become adaptable. In one of the
positions I was an English summer camp tutor for three months to children ages 5-16 across
Italy. This position exposed me to an engaging method of delivering lessons, which was through
dramatic arts. In practice teaching I used some of these methods to redirect the classroom when it
became restless. These brain break activities were successful as I was able to regain the class
attention and give students the opportunity to refocus their learning. In addition, my experience
in a childrens home in Kenya has allowed me to understand some of the developmental needs of
children. I learned in this position the importance of developing gross, fine, motor, and social
skills in children such as receptive and expressive communication.
Practice teaching with the Greater Essex District School Board (GEDSB) has given me the
necessary skills that will allow me to succeed in any classroom. For example, in a grade 2 class I
learned various instructional strategies for mathematics and language arts. For instance one being
how to establish a one hundred minute literacy block through various methods such as: shared
reading, reading out loud as well as independent reading. Also while teaching problem solving
questions, I used the three-part math lesson strategy which focused on before, after,
consolidation, and bansho to discuss and display solutions. Additionally, in a grade three class I
focused on providing instructional scaffolding to meet the diverse needs of the students in the
classroom. For instance, I focused on demonstrating to students exactly what they are expected
to do by, pre teaching vocabulary, using graphic organizers, and providing students with
examples of completed tasks as success criteria examples.
As a reflective practitioner I am always engaged in the process of continuous learning. As I learn
from my experiences, I am confident in knowing that I can hone my skills as an educator and can
establish an educational climate which fosters social justice, equity, and most importantly a
nurturing environment for all students to succeed. Thank you for considering my application. I
hope to soon discuss with you how my experience and abilities can best meet the goals of your
district.
Sincerely,

Karleen Reynolds
