According to the DSU Department of Education DESERT model standards; my eportfolio contains a variety of materials that shows the

growth and development of my teaching

abilities throughout the Education program. The experiences I have gained are documented in
my e-portfolio in the form of Assessments, Technology Projects, and Differentiated Lesson
Plans. These items show evidence of meeting the claim of becoming a competent, caring, and
qualified educator.
I believe I am a competent educator as demonstrated by my Science Lesson, Parts of
Plants; I created for my ELED 4300 class as well as taught for 2 different Kindergarten classes.
This lesson plan shows that I am able to create different activities that meet the needs of my
diverse students (DM1) and to incorporate hands on activities as well as technology to motivate
the students in learning (DM2). As identified in my contextual factors of this classroom I had 1
ELL students and 2 Speech students, one of whom is classified as SPED. My lesson plan shows
the modifications made to meet the needs of these students as well as what the rest of the class
would be doing. I included SIOP strategies such as vocabulary that was relevant to the subject
content, supplemental materials to engage the students thinking, and different grouping
configurations to help support the language and content objectives of the lesson. The given
assessments show that all students met the lesson objectives. This provides evidence that my
accommodations were appropriate and helpful to the students.
I believe I am a caring educator as demonstrated in my Math lesson video, 3-D shapes. I
created this lesson plan and video for my ELED 4100 class. This video shows me interacting
with the students and taking an interest in what they have to say. It also shows my teaching skills
using different strategies with the students. Incorporating hands on activity for the students to
use, shows that I know the interest level and behavioral level of my students. It shows that I am

aware of what the students can handle and for how long to have them complete the activity
before they become off task. This lesson shows that my classroom management (DM4) works for
the age group with whom the lesson is directed and that the students are able to move around the
room and still stay on task. I believe that this lesson shows that I am capable of knowing what
my students need and to help them feel comfortable to follow through with their ideas on what
will work and what will not (DM6). The students were able to move around the classroom and
test out their different ideas knowing that they would not get in trouble or be made fun of if their
idea did not work. I believe the students all feel as though they can be themselves with no fear of
rejection.
Included with my 3-D Shapes lesson plan is a self-reflection on how I perceived myself
teaching the students. Watching me teach is a great way to view what is working in my
classroom when I am teaching and what is not. It is a way for me to look back and acknowledge
what I need to change to make the lesson better (DM5). Being able to reflect on my teaching
gives me different ideas of what I can do to improve my lessons and make better interventions
for the students to learn and grow from.
I believe I am a qualified educator. My History production, the Tomb if the Unknown
Solider, is a great example of stepping outside my comfort zone by becoming an expert in an
area of History that I can share with my students (DM3). Being able to try something that you
think you cannot do and accomplishing it is a great feeling. I have been given the opportunity to
test my skills and learn and grow from many different mentor teachers and educators. I have
shown my patience and willingness to learn from them and feel that I have become a better
educator because of the experiences I have been given. I believe that my organization skills and
my standard of setting high expectations for all students make me a qualified educator.

Looking back at where I was when I started the ELED program to where I am now, I am
amazed by the leaps and bounds I have accomplished. The teaching strategies I have learned as
shown in my e-portfolio will benefit many children in the future. Each of these experiences
shows that I am a competent, caring and qualified educator.
