To Whom It May Concern:

Please consider this letter of support for Janine Schug. I have had the opportunity to work with
Janine in a variety of professional settings, and can affirm with the highest confidence that she would
make a valuable addition to your team. Her work ethic, dedication to excellence, and
knowledgeability will exceed your expectations of a team member and employee.
Janine is currently a senior interpreting student here at St. Catherine University, graduating as an
ASL Honors Society inductee, indicating her commitment to rigorous academic excellence in ASL
and Interpreting coursework. In addition, she is the student worker for the CATIE Center and the
secretary for the Minnesota Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (MRID). She has completed her
interpreting internship at Normandale Community College, while also taking advantage of
additional internship opportunities in healthcare, community, and religious settings. She is always
motivated to stretch her personal and professional limits, while also ensuring that she is
appropriately practicing self-care for longevity in the field.
I have been fortunate, as the Program Coordinator for the ASL & Interpreting department at St.
Catherine University, and as the treasurer for MRID, to work closely alongside Janine, and to witness
her work as a competent and effective colleague. Having Janine in the office, and on the MRID
board, has made my work in both environments more efficient and enjoyable. Working with her as
an internship host in a religious setting, I have seen her drive and passion for the interpreting field,
and have every confidence in her ability to be an effective colleague.
Despite being in her senior year, a busy time for an interpreting student, she still brings her best self
to each activity she has committed to. She is able to manage varying demands of school work, office
work, board responsibilities, and her personal commitments. Having worked closely with RID
through the CATIE Center and with MRID at the state level, Janine demonstrates her unwavering
commitment to the profession. She is motivated to adhere to the standard of excellence that we
expect from interpreters, and is working to achieve national certification within one year of
graduation. Above all, Janine is a team player, and would strive to create cohesive relationships with
her team interpreters, Deaf and hearing consumers, and other stakeholders.
I look forward to seeing the positive impact that Janine will have on our field, and will thoroughly
enjoy having her as a close colleague. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or follow-up
regarding this recommendation.
Sincerely,

Ashley Butcher, NIC
