1. This arrangement of Songs For Mother Earth is appropriate for a middle school or high
school small group. It is a two part piece for any combination of voices and it is secular. The
tempo is marked as solemnly at 80 beats per minute. It has a piano and rattle drum
accompaniment.
2. This arrangement of Sound The Trumpet is appropriate for a high school choir. It is within
range although it is on the higher end of the soprano where it goes to a high A. This piece is
secular and SA. The tempo is not to fast but lifting at 80 beats per minute.
3. This arrangement of South African Suite is appropriate for a middle school group the range
of G-E is not extreme. However, when choosing this you should account for the language.
The piece has no temp marking but I believe a marking of around 70 would be appropriate. It
should be moving but the words should be clear and heard not rushed. The piece is secular in
text.
4. This arrangement of Round The Globe No. 9 Banuwa is appropriate for a middle school or
high school 4 part treble voice choir. It is a secular piece with a tempo of 84 beats per minute
which is described as not too fast, but very rhythmic.
5. This arrangement of Hallelujah is appropriate for a high school choir. In this piece the bass
has a high C. The tempo is marked at allegro gioiso and 80 beats per minute for the half note.
The song is also a sacred piece.
6. This arrangement of Alleluia by Ralph Manuel is appropriate for a higher high school or
above level choir. The sopranos range goes down to a C below the staff. The altos go down
to a low G below the staff and the tenors range goes down to a C below the staff. The bass
has an optional low C. This is a sacred piece and the tempo is marked reverently.
7. This arrangement of The Morning Trumpet is appropriate for high school or higher leveled
choirs. The alto sings with the bass down to a low A below the staff. The tempo is marked as
with spirit and changes to more slowly and very legato half way through before it returns
back to tempo I.
8. This arrangement of N'kosi Sikelel'i Africa is appropriate for middle school or above leveled
choirs. The parts are in the easy range with the exception of an optional low D in the bass
part. The piece is sacred. It is a "prayer for Africa" and the Pan-African national Anthem.
The tempo is marked as moderate and moves to faster. It has an optional part marked as
majestic.
9. This arrangement of Thou Art Great Psalm 86; 10, 11, 12 is appropriate for a middle school
level choir or above. The ranges are not at all extreme and the texture is simple. The tempo is
allegro moderato. Also, the piece is liturgical using a sacred text.
10. This arrangement of Frostina "Choose Something Like A Star" is appropriate for middle
school level and above. The parts are all with in a good range. The piece is secular and from
a poem by Robert Frost. The tempo is marked at larghetto and 60 beats per minute.
11. This arrangement of The Trysting Place (Der gang zum liebchen) is appropriate for middle
school on up. The rand is not extreme on either end. There is an english translation that is
accessible for younger ensembles. The tempo is marked at con moto e grazioso and is a
secular piece.
12. This arrangement of Let Beauty Awake is appropriate for a high school level choir. The
ranges are fairly high and reach up to a high F above the staff for the tenor and bass part. The
piece is secular and the tempo is marked as with majesty and freely.
13. This arrangement of Antigua (Guatemala) is appropriate for middle school choirs and above.
The ranges are fairly simple. This is a secular piece and the tempo is marked in 2 as like a
guarimba.
14. This arrangement of In These Delightful Pleasant Groves is appropriate for a high school
level choir. The bass' range rises to a high Bb above the staff. The piece has a tempo marked
as allegro moderato and 92 beats per minute for each half note. This is also secular.
15. This arrangement of Care Selve (From The Opera "Atlanta") is appropriate for a middle
school group of unison voices. The range of B-D is very comfortably in the middle. The
piece is secular and has the tempo marked as Largo.
16. This arrangement of Haida is appropriate for a middle school level choir or above. The
unison and two part canon has a comfortable range. The only issue might be that it is not in
english. The piece is also secular. The tempo is marked as andantino; with swagger.
17. This arrangement of Old John Muddlecombe is appropriate for a middle school choir. It is a
simple unison piece with a comfortable range that is accompanied with percussion parts.
This song is secular and the tempo is marked as rhythmically but steadily at 120 beats per
minute.
18. This arrangement of Lullaby and Dance is appropriate for a high school level choir. Although
the ranges are not extreme the piece has a lot of movement which would be better suited for
more experienced singers. This piece is in unison with 69-76 beats per minute. It is also a
secular piece.
19. This arrangement of Three Spanish Ballades is appropriate for a middle or high school
women's group of SSA. For the range the sopranos only reach up to an F on top of the staff.
This is a secular piece with a tempo describes a "with spirit" or 116-120 beats per minute.
20. This arrangement of Trilogy For Women's Voices I. Fall, Leaves, Fall is appropriate for a
more advanced women's group of upper high school. The range in the altos goes down to a
low F below the staff. The arrangement is SSAA, secular, and the tempo is lento at 66 beats
per minute.
21. This arrangement of Verdant Meadows by G.F. Handel is appropriate for a more advanced
high school level choir or above. The piece is within range. However, the second soprano
and alto are at the bottom of their range when hitting the low C and D below the staff. This
piece is SSA and the tempo is marked as larghetto.
22. This arrangement of Odi Odi is a Tamil song for treble or mixed voices. This piece would be
appropriate for a middle or high school level because of its simplicity in chords and rhythm.
It would give younger students exposure to proper dictation of other languages. However,
the second tenor does encounter some challenging low notes such as two low Fs below the
staff. To account for this you would need to voice the piece properly or make other
adjustments. There is no marking for tempo. However since the piece is meant to be counted
in 7 the beat should seem fairly brisk. This piece is secular.
23. This arrangement of The Sun Is A Luminous Shield is appropriate for a higher level high
school choir. The piece is rhythmically more difficult. The piece is in range, although a little
on the higher end at points, except for a low B in the tenor part which will need to be
accounted for. This piece has sacred roots. The tempo is marked at allegro ma non troppo.
24. This arrangement of Be Joyful with Singing (Auf! Swimmer die saiten) is appropriate for
high school voices. This is within range however it is stretching out of the tessitura range.
This piece by Dietrich Buxtehude is SAB and is sacred. The tempo is energetically
rhythmically at 132-138 beats per minute. This piece is also polyphonic in texture.
25. This arrangement of Due Pupille Amabili (two Starry Beams) by W.A. Mozart is appropriate
for a middle school or higher choir. The piece is SAB and is within the normal range except
for a possible problematic high A in the bass part which stretches t the top of the normal
range. The piece is Secular and the tempo is marked as andante (with motion).
26. This arrangement of Heidenroslein (The Hedgerose) by Franz Schubert is appropriate for a
high school level choir. Although the piece is fair in range the basses are pushed past the top
of their normal comfortable range to a high B. The piece is secular and the tempo is marked
as 68 beats per minute.
27. This arrangement of Memories ( From "Songs of a Prospector") is appropriate for middle
school level. Even though the parts are mostly in range the soprano range does reach to the
bottom. The piece is secular and the tempo is tenderly at 66-69 beats per minute.
28. This arrangement of Se Lontan, Ben Mio, Tu Sei (Whenever, Love, You're Far From Me) by
W.A. Mozart is most appropriate for middle school or high school. This is because the piece
is in a good range that does not break the common range rules. This SAB arrangement is
secular and the tempo is marked as andante.
