Learning Outcomes
By the end of the term, successful students will have gained a fundamental knowledge of both
classical (Mendelian) and molecular genetics. More specifically:
Students will understand how genetic traits are transmitted.

Students will learn how to predict the expected types and probabilities of particular
genotypes and phenotypes among offspring of genetic crosses.

Students will understand DNA structure and how it may be altered by mutation.

Students will gain skills needed to perform gene mapping.

Students will understand chromosome and genome structure.

Students will understand how gene expression may be regulated.

Students will understand the fundamentals of cancer biology.

Students will gain a comprehension and appreciation of the basics of biotechnology and
related issues.
