Clinical Hours required: 120 hours Clinical Hours completed: 120 hours Type of Experience: Experience gained from this course focused on assessing the pediatric population and to provide care to support optimal health of children within the context of their family, community, and environment as a whole. Identifying normal vs. abnormal newborn assessment, diagnosing and managing common newborn illnesses, address unique feeding issues related to the pediatric population such as lactation issues, difficult/picky eaters etc. were discussed, understanding, demonstrating knowledge and skills in providing well as well as sick child care, and prevention/management of common pediatric acute illnesses and chronic conditions. This experience increased my knowledge on the role of the pediatric /family nurse practitioner in managing and evaluating the care of children in urban settings, including immunization schedule, child developmental land marks, appropriate anticipatory guidance, injury prevention and common complaints.
