navigation.
The vikings, for example, travelled up the Vistula and
the Oder in their longships.

 The climate in Poland is mostly temperated throughtout the country.


 The climate is Oceanic in the north and west, but is gradually warmer and
continental in the south and east.
 Sumers are generally warm ( average temperatures between 20-27 ºC )
 Winters are cold ( average temperatures round 3 ºC )
 The warmest region in Poland is Lesser Poland ( Southern Poland )
 The warmest city in Poland is Tarnów ( is located in the Lesser Poland )
 The coldest region of Poland is in the Northeast in the Podlaskie
Voivodeship ( near of Belarus )

Geology

 The geological structure of Poland has been shaped by the continental


collision of Europe and Africa over the past 60 million years, on the one
hand, and the Quaternary glaciations of northern Europe, on the other
( both processes shaped the Sudetes and the Carpathian Mountains )
 The High Tatras, the Beskids and the Karkonosze are maid up mainly of
granite and basalts.
 The Polish Jura Chain is one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth.
Polish Cuisine

 Polish cuisine is rich in meal, especially chicken and pork.


 Is rich in spices too, as well as different kinds of noodles ( the most notable
of which are the pierogi )
 Generally speaking, the Polish cuisine is hearty.
 Notable foods in Polish cuisine include kiełbasa, barszcz, pierogi, flaczki…

 Traditional Polish desserts include pączki, gingerbread and others.


Architecture

 Romanesque architecture is represented by St. Andrew’s church ( Kraków )


 Characteristic for Poland Brick Gothic by St. Mary’s church ( Gdansk )
 Polish Renaissance architecture, in the City Hall in Poznan.

 Side towers, visible in Branicki Palace in Bialystok, are typical for the Polish
baroque.
 The classical Silesian baroque represented by the University in Wroclaw.
 Profuse decorations of Branicki Palace in Warsaw are characteristic of
rococo stlye.
 Lublin Castle represents the Gothic Revival style in architecture, while the
Izrael Poznanski Palace in Lodz is the best example of eclecticism.
