18millionfollowers.Thismeansthatonaverageonetothreetimesaday,eighteenmillion
peoplearenotifiedoftheactionsandthoughtsofthetheband.Evenifonlyonepercentofthose
followerspayattentiontothosetweets,180,000peoplehavebeeninteractedwith.Depending
onthestrengthandveracityofafansloveforOneDirection,thetweetwilleitherbedismissed,
ortakenintoseriousaccount.Thepurposeofmyresearchistofindouthowandtowhatextent
canfansobsessionsorinterestsaffecttheareasofatheirlife?Answeringthisquestionwilllend
understandingtomanypeopleouttherewhoknowsomeonethathaveobsessionsthatare
sometimesendearingandsometimesconcerninganddiscoverifthereisalineharmlesshobbyor
detrimentalobsession.
ThesourcesIwillbeusinghaveallbeenpublishedrecently,makingsurethattheyare
notoutdated,andarerelevanttomyresearch.Thetopicsofthearticlesrangefrommental

thattheyareinarealrelationshipthoughtheyvenevermetthem.Thisdiscussionthreadwillbe
usefulinmypaperbecauseitgivesareallifeandpersonalinsighttowhatanunhealthy
obsessionmightlooklike.Thisthreadispostedonamentalhealthcentricforum,sothereis
possibilitythatthispersonmighthaveothercontributingfactorstoherobsession,butwiththe
numberofresponsesthatsaythattheyknowsomeonewiththesameproblemorarehavingthe
sameproblem,Idontthinkthatthisisanisolatedincident.

comprehending,butbeingcriticalofvariousformsofmedia.Whenanintriguedindividualtakes
informationandideasthatalreadyexist,combinesitwiththeirownpersonalresourcesof
linguistic,cultural,andcognitiveexperiencesandunderstanding,resultsinfanfiction.This
processinvolvesalevelofcriticalliteracyfromfanfictionauthors,astheydonotpassively
consumematerialandtexts,butquestionthecharacterandplotdecisionsmade.Theauthorstates
thatfanfictionisnotsomethingtobedismissed,andwarrantstobetakenseriouslybecauseof
theamountoffanfictionoutthere,themajorityoftextsthatclaimtobewrittenbyauthorswho

Whetherthisclubisthroughanonlinesocialnetworkorinlifemeetings,fansflocktothese
clubsasawaytomakefriendshipsandconnections.Thepeoplethatareinterviewsspanovera
verylargevarietyoffandoms,fromsoapoperastoTheGratefulDead,explainingadynamicand
hierarchysimilartotheoneexplainedinBussesarticleabove.However,thisarticlesinterviews
spendsmoreattentiontothefandomsocietiesintheninetiesthanthecurrentdecades.Because
ofthis,theaccuracyandrelevanceoftheinformationthearticleprovidescouldbecalledinto
questionasthespeedandimportanceoftechnologyandinternethaschanged.Despitethis,itwill
