ISTE NETS S Profile for a Technology Literate Student
Profile for Technology (ITC) Literate students
Grades PK-2 (Ages 4-8)
1. Illustrate and communicate original ideas and stories using digital tools and
media-rich resources. (1, 2)
What I would do: Let students create their own digital story about summer, or who
their hero is and why.
2. Identify, research, and collect data on an environmental issue using digital
resources and propose a developmentally appropriate solution. (1, 3, 4)
What I would do: Allow students to research a topic they are passionate about, then
using PowerPoint or other presentation media to display what they would do to help
the situation.
3. Engage in learning activities with learners from multiple cultures through e-mail
and other electronic means. (2, 6)
What I would do: Allow the class as a whole to research different countries and then
choose on one to send emails and e-cards to the students in that country.
4. In a collaborative work group, use a variety of technologies to produce a digital
presentation or product in a curriculum area. (1, 2, 6)
What I would do: Choose the groups for the students to be in and each group uses a
different technology resource or digital presentation in with they make a
commercial for a product they must sell
5. Find and evaluate information related to a current or historical person or event
using digital resources. (3)
What I would do: Put students in groups. Each group will present on a different
person, while each person in the group researches a specific thing on the person
and tells the class about the facts and where and how they found the information
while researching.
6. Use simulations and graphical organizers to explore and depict patterns of growth
such as the life cycles of plants and animals. (1, 3, 4)
What I would do: allow students to explore different videos of plants growing,
playing games in which they have to grow and take care of their own plants. Then
from what was learned taking it outside of the digital world and growing their own
plants.
7. Demonstrate the safe and cooperative use of technology. (5)
What I would do: communicate the pros and cons of technology through an
interactive presentation, allowing the students to keep the conversation going and
even ask about their technology experiences.

8. Independently apply digital tools and resources to address a variety of tasks and
problems. (4, 6)
What I would do: Identify the problems at hand, first showing the students the
different digital tools on my own, and then learning together and finally allowing the
students to get on the computer and showcasing their ability to fix the problem on
their own.
9. Communicate about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate
terminology. (6)
What I would do: create a vocabulary game in which the students must
communicate with each other to figure out what the word means and them applying
the term.
10. Demonstrate the ability to navigate in virtual environments such as electronic
books, simulation software, and Web sites. (6)
What I would do: create an online scavenger hunt. The students must follow the
instructions of the teacher, such as select the back button type in this website in
the address box, in order for the students to get to the correct destination.
