Standard 3.c. Using Resources Effectively in ESL and Content

Instruction
The artifact I choose for standard 3c came from a lesson for my first grade class.
The artifact is a video of my students interviewing as well as recording me as one of their
community workers. This artifact demonstrates that I can select materials that are
interesting, motivating, and age-appropriate, and supportive of student learning
because the microphone used was made out of pointer stick and construction paper and
the camera was our class I-Pad the students use for our literacy centers. The students
were very excited to see how these everyday objects were being used in an interview. The
use of the I-Pad shows that I can incorporate other technological tools to enhance
language and content instruction.
Having one of my students interview me while another records me using an I Pads
expanded my knowledge of how I can use technological tools like I-Pad and
microphones to enhance language. In learning about the job of a community worker,
students formed questions and gathered information to supporting content instruction.
This artifact contributed to my professional understanding of this standard by
giving me grasp of what its like to motivate and support student learning by having
hands on experience with technology. The students were much more engaged performing
their question in camera rather than just writing their question down on paper. The class
participation in this lesson was close to a hundred percent because the student all wanted
to have a chance to hold either the microphone or the I Pad.
A few of the areas in which I would consider improving is trying to provide more
opportunities where my students can use technology. Seeing how technology is becoming

preparing themselves for the real world.
