DLP Pvt. Ltd. considering the possibility of purchasing a multipurpose machine which cost Rs. 10 lakhs. The machine has a expected life of 5 years. The machine generates Rs. 6 lakhs per year before depreciation and tax and the management wishes to dispose the machine at the end of 5 y‘ ‘hich will fetch Rs. 1,00,000. ‘The depreciation allowable for the machine is 25% on written down value and the company’s tax rate is 50%. The company approached a NBFC for a five year lease for financing the asset which quoted a rate of Rs. 28 per thousand per month. The company wants you to evaluate the proposal with purchase option. [t carries fifteen marks, (1x15=15) Toyota Production System (TPS) can be described as an aggregation of IIT, Jidoka, TPM and standard work. It practices JIT principles and lean logistics and aims to make the flow of supplies with information speed. Lower transportation costs, lower inventory levels and zero defects ensure higher productivity, quality and low-cost advantages. Focus on core competency, strategic outsouring and On the Job Training (OFT) are some of the best practices followed in Toyota. It challenges its suppliers and employees to achieve world-class manufacturing and service capabilities. Toyota works very closely with its suppliers to ensure synchronous R/M flow, high quality and low cost. Frequent deliveries, on-line tracking of supplies and effective co-ordination are the success factors in Toyota. A medium scale engineering company manufacturing pressure cookers is contemplating to introduce TPM in their company. The company was established ten years ago and the CEO attended a conference and learnt he can avoid costly investment to increase capacity through TPM. The company’s turnover is around 120 crores per annum. It has about 110 employees and has 5 functional managers. You have been appointed as a consultant to draw a road map for implementing ‘TPM. You are also expected to introduce the concept to all employees and be part of implementation team. Prepare a detailed report including cost and time line for implementation.
