APA Referencing

Why reference?
At the end of an essay,
assignment or a piece you
have writing, a bibliography
is required to identify the
sources you used to compile
your response.
Otherwise, this is plagarism!
That includes any quotes
and any paraphrasing you
have written in your
response.

Using Quotes...
Write quotes in inverted commas and concluded with
(Surname, Year). If the quote is longer than 2 sentences it
should be separated by the rest of the text via a new
paragraphed, justified in.
Paraphrasing does not need inverted commas, BUT it
involves more than just changing a few words.

Books...
Name(s) of author(s), editor(s) as (Eds), compiler(s) or the
institution responsible
Date of publication in parenthesis. ( ).
Title of publication and Subtitle if any (all titles must be
italicised).
Edition. (if other than first).
Page numbers preceded by the abbreviation for pages pp.
( ). NOTE: This is for quotes only.
Place of publication (followed by a colon) :
Publisher
Bernstein, D. K (2010). Religious Education (2nd ed.).
Columbus, Sydney: HarperCollins Publishers.

Journal and Newspaper Articles


Article author/s
Date of publication in parenthesis ( ).
Article title.
Periodical Title and volume number (italicised),
Issue (or part) number for journals without continuous
pagination, which goes in brackets followed by a comma
e.g. ( ),
Page number(s) - finish the element with a full stop
(period).
Murray, C (1999). St Augustines. Journal of Learning, 24(2),

Websites and Web Documents


Author, A. A. (2000). Title of work. Retrieved month day,
year, from source.
NOTE:
Only use sources that are reliable (ie. No Wikipedia or
sources with no author, check the credibility of the source).

Audio Visual Material


Producer's name followed by (Producer)
Directors/Writers name followed by (Writer) or (Director).
Date of release in parenthesis. ( ).
Title. (italicised) - immediately followed by format, e.g.
[Motion picture]
Place of origin (followed by a colon) :
Studio producing the motion picture.

Word Count...
You are allowed to go 10% over, but beyond this, the marker
is not required to read any additional content.
Always use double or 1.5 spacing, with size 12 Times New
Roman or Arial font.
