her voice.
Joanne has learned that teaching division one means we have to be good role models at all

learning with them how to properly form the letters.
She did an excellent job of mixing up teaching by using technology, teacher directed, student
directed and games to engage her students.

using signals to show understanding, using their fingers to show how many sounds they hear in
a word for spelling, playing games to see where they are at as well as using their practice
sheets or manipulatives. She has seen the importance of having summative assessments done
to help back teachers professional judgement of where each students academic level. Joanne
gave input where she could in preparation for parent-teacher interviews. A sheet was used with
different evaluation tools to show the parents the students progress. She was able to attend

Teacher evaluation including evidence:

This is an area that all teachers strive to become better at. Joanne was in tune with her
students. She got down at their level to talk with them and used a calm tone. Because of her
calm tone, the classroom environment was calm and quiet by nature when she taught a subject.
Joanne knows the importance of being prepared helps keep students on task. Transitions
needed to be filled with structure as well as lessons. We have talked about different strategies
and she was able to watch a few veteran teachers to pick up ideas of how they did it. The
strategies she had seen and tried will help her to continue to become better. We had
discussions about how to start the year and get it started. Everyone has their own style that
they are comfortable with; she has to find hers and fine tune it. With practice and more
experience, it will get better and her confidence will continue to grow.

Observing Joanne teaching was wonderful. When we would talk about lessons plans she would
ask questions about the ways she is presenting her lessons and if they were alright or how they
could be improved. We would have discussions about ideas. You could tell she was listening
intently and using that information to the best of her abilities. In her lessons, she would

Student Teachers Comments:

These 9 weeks have absolutely flown by. I have grown so much from this experience. I have
discovered my teaching philosophy as well as found some classroom management techniques
that I look forward to trying out with my own class in the near future. My overall confidence has
also grown as I get more comfortable in my role as the teacher. I know that being a teacher
means that I will be learning and changing throughout my career as I am continually reflecting
upon my lessons so that I can strive to make them better for the next time.
I am grateful to the staff and students of Marwayne Jubilee for this wonderful opportunity to learn
from everyone and to experience Grade 2.
