Our group decided to research on mandatory vaccinations. We choose this topic because
over the past years this topic has been very controversial and its two different sides intrigued us to
find out wish side people take, of whether they should be mandated or not. Our questions provided
a variety of different arguments and the survey taker had to select the arguments which applied to
them. The arguments included both the side against and the side with mandatory vaccines. The
first questions was the identification of their sex, What is you gender. Next, question was, Are
you a parent? We asked this question because we felt like it was an important concept to know,
as parents have control of their children. Continuing, we then provided a list of arguments which
could persuade the allowance of vaccines in the person. Specifically, we asked Would this list of
arguments persuade you to allow vaccines to be mandatory? (Check all that apply) The
statements are as followed:
1. If the majority of the population was vaccinated, the vaccinated population would not only
protect themselves from sickness, they would protect the few who are not vaccinated,
known as "herd immunity"...
2. The belief that vaccines are linked to autism is a myth. Vaccines, while they have some
risks, are far less risky than catching a fatal disease such as polio.
3. Vaccines have dramatically decreased the amount of occurrences of infectious childhood
illnesses since the 1970s.
4. None of the above
As you may have noticed above, we provided a list reasonable arguments, which in a way or
another were used to obtain the closet public opinion and their pro-side on the mentioned topic.
Continuing with the side to deny mandatory vaccinations, the question we asked is as follows,

Would this list of arguments cause you to deny mandatory vaccines?(Check all that apply), the
concurrent arguments were used.
1. Children cannot attend public school without receiving a vaccine.
2. Mandatory vaccines are an infringement on our personal rights.
3. There is not enough data and experimentation that has been done to prove the harmlessness
of vaccinations for people.
4. None of the above
Finally, we summed things up with the question of, Have vaccines played a major role in your
life? The last question was very essential to know because the used of this question, allowed us
to really view their actual side of whether they believe vaccines have been a reliable source in their
life or not.

The graph on the previous page represents the percentage of students out of 27 respondents who
agreed or disagreed with making vaccines mandatory state wide. Over a third of the participants
decided that vaccines should be mandatory for all three of the reasons listed: herd immunity,
preventing childhood sicknesses, and acknowledging the fact that vaccines are NOT linked to
autism. Also, out of the entire student respondents, only 8% believed that none of the reasons were
enough to mandate vaccines.

This next graph, digs a little deeper into the debate on mandatory vaccines. This graph shows how
many students out of the 27 believed vaccines should be mandated, but it also shows the number
of male and female respondents.

The pie chart above shows the percentage of people who believed that vaccines should not be
vaccinated for the following arguments: they are an infringement on our rights, children cannot
attend public school without receiving them, and there is not enough research done on the effects
vaccines can have on human beings. This graph tends to align with the previous pie chart. 42% of
the 27 respondents said that none of these reasons should keep vaccines from being mandated. The
only very significant percentage of people against mandatory vaccinations was the amount of
people believing that more research was needed to be sure that vaccines were safe for human use.
