Frank M. Robinson (2001) The Donor. New York, NY: Legal Press, Inc.

Frank tell us a story about a man who wakes up in a tub of ice in a hotel room
with a kidney missing, also a collage age young man and an adoptee, wakes up in
a small private hospital in San Francisco after a minor car accident to discover
that one of his organs is missing. He was an involuntary transplant donor. He flees
to a municipal hospital, only to learn that this is the second organ to be harvested
from him. The legend comes to life in this dramatic and scary story.

6 Organ Donors

Becker, Gary S., and Julio Jorge Elias. "Introducing incentives in the market for live and
cadaveric organ donations." The Journal of Economic Perspectives (2007): 3-24.

Becker tells us that the first transplant was in 1954 with a kidney transplant
performed at Brigham & Womens hospital in Boston. Since then the number of
kidneys, liver, heart and other organs transplant has grown rapidly, but not nearly
as rapidly as the growth in the number of persons with defective organs who
desire transplants. The number of kidneys transplants has increased slowly in
recent years, from about 10,000 in 1990 to over 13,700 in 2005. Liver and
pancreas transplant are similar over the 1990-2001 period the number of liver
transplant almost doubled to reach about 5,000 by 2001.

During this article the author show us in a graph how the transplant increase and
decrees from the beginning to now. Also tell us when and where was the first
transplant. The purpose of this article is tell us how everything begins and the
effects of this.

Running Head: ORGAN DONORS

Evans, Martyn. "Organ donations should not be restricted to relatives." Journal of

medical ethics 15.1 (1989): 17-20.

Evans explain us how should be when they remove organs from living donors
only in case where they are genetically related to intended recipients of such
organs. The practice in a majority of European nations is to apply such a
restriction. This restriction limits the availability of already scare donor organs,
and curtails the opportunities for altruistic action on the part of those who are not
genetically related to the recipient. The author argues that we have a duty to
maximize procurement of organs, also consider the principal objections to nonrelated donation and shows them to be misdirected.

This article say that non-related donation should be welcomed where clinically
appropriated and truly votary. Also that alarms the entire citizen. The purpose of
this article is to inform the donors the things that can happen.

8 Organ Donors

Nadel, Mark S., and Carolina A. Nadel. "Using reciprocity to motivate organ donations."
Yale journal of health policy, law, and ethics 5 (2005): 293-325.

Nadel, Mark and Carolina tell us that more than 6000 Americans die annually due
to a shortage of organs for transplant. The supply of donated organs could be
increased by the adoption of policy of reciprocity, a kind of organ insurance.
Those who donate their organs at their death should be rewarded with a small
preference in the event that they later need a transplant. Increasing the supply of
organs is already used as one of the justifications for the UNOS local first rule
and reciprocity policy would likely represent a more effective means to that end.

The author of these article say that just as time on waiting list is used today to
help determine who receives an organ. The donor list should also be a factor. The
purpose of this article is to inform how day-by-day a lot of Americans die waiting
an organ and how we can collaborate.

Running Head: ORGAN DONORS

Robertson, John A. "Organ donations by incompetents and the substituted judgment

doctrine." Columbia Law Review (1976): 48-78.

Robertson explain us the problem that often arises in the development and
application of biomedical knowledge, the need to inflict suffering on incompetent
persons to benefit others. Incompetents are used as subjects in medical
experimentation and as a source of tissue and organ transplants. The threat to this
value takes many forms. Sometimes the threat is inequality, as when scarce
medical resources are allocated on the basis of social worth or incompetents rather
that consenting adults are use in experimentation.

This article explains the threat that some people who has a transplant receive. The
purpose of this, is to inform us how there can be threat.
