MySearchStory

TheoncebeautifulEarthhasnowbeendestroyedbyus,humans.Wehave
alreadykilledenvironmentsandspeciesofanimals,butwehavecreatedsomethingthat
wontjustdestroytheecosystem,wehavecreatedsomethingthatwilldestroythe
world.Wehavecreatednonrenewableenergy.Nonrenewableenergyproducesalotof
greenhousegasesthatwillatthisratechokeouttheworldandasthenameimplies,itis
nonrenewable,butthereisanalternativeroute,Renewableenergy.Renewableenergy
hasbeencreatedwithsomeofthelatesttechnologies.Thesenewtechnologieswill
savetheecosystem,butthecostofswitchingtheentireenergysystemmightdestroy
theeconomy.Changingfromburningcoalandfossilfueltousingrenewableenergies
suchassolarpowerorwindpowerisvitalforthesafetyofEarth.

BeforeIstarteddoingmyresearchonmytopicIgotsevensources,butthe
printersinthecomputerlabthatdaywerenotworking,butifinallygotmyresearch
materialsinafteroneweekofthembeingdue.Mybiggestchallengeatthispointwas
makingresearchquestionsformytopic.On2/6/15ifinallyprintedmysources,butidid
notturnanythingthedaybeforeso,sothenightbeforeihadtocatchuponeverything.
Also,ididallofmysourcecardsthatwereduethatday.Atthispointiwascompletely
caughtup.On2/13/15iwasbehindbecausethedaybeforeiwassick,becauseofthisi
didnotgetworkonnotecards,soionlyhad27cardsandineededtogetto40that
day.Iendedupget40cards,butnowihadtoget50overtheweekend.On2/23/15we
gotbackfromaonedayweekbecauseofcoldweather,soeverythingwasputbehind
schedule,butifinished50notecards.Bytomorrowihavetomakeanoutline.On
2/25/15westartedworkingonoursearchstories,buttheoutlineiturnedinneedstobe
revised.

followingquestions.Iaskedallofthemthesequestions,doyouthinkswitchingfrom
fossilfuelstorenewableenergyisbetterfortheenvironment?,doyouthinkweshould
switchfromfossilfuelstorenewableenergycompletely?,anddoyouthinkitwouldbe
betterfortheeconomytoswitchfromfossilfuelstorenewableenergy.Theseareonly
threeofthetenquestionsiasked,butifoundthesethreethemostimportant.from
theseresults100%saidswitchingisbetterfortheenvironment,70%saidweshould
switchcompletely,and10%saiditwouldbebetterfortheeconomy.

Fossilfuelshavebeenthemainsourceofenergysincethe19thcentury,butthe
badeffectsoffossilfuelsisimpactingthemodernworld.sideeffectssuchasair
pollutionarecausingtheglobalwarmingratetospeedup.In2014,theworldis
produced23billiongallonsoffuelethanolandnearly6billiongallonsofbiodiesel
(williams).Iftheworldisproducingthismuchfossilfuels,thentheworldisproducinga
lotofcarbondioxidebecausecarbondioxideisletoffthefossilfuelswhentheyare
burned,carbondioxideisagreenhousegas,soitisincreasingtheglobalwarmingrate.
Fossilfuelsandcoalweretheonlysourceofenergyusedinthe19thand20thcentury
(Brown).Soforthepast200yearswehavebeenproducingsomethingthatcausesair
pollutionwhichwilleventuallykillusall.Eventuallytheamountofgreenhousegases
producedwillchokeouttheworldcausingthenextmassextinction(Birt).Ifweare
producingagasthatwillcausethenextmassextinctionthereshouldbecomeanew
sourceofenergytoreplacenonrenewableenergy.Theamountofgreenhousegases

wehavebeenproducingforthepast200yearsisnowimpactingthemodernworld,
unlessthereisanalternativeroute.
Renewableenergyisbecomingthesourceofenergyforthefuture.Energies
suchaswindpower,solarpower,andhydraulicpowerarebecomingprominent
energies.Windpowerisnowusedinover80countriesworldwide,makingwindpower
30%oftheworldssourceofenergy(Brown).Thegrowthofrenewableenergyisgoing
tocleantheairpollutionandlowertheglobalwarmingrate.Itispredictedthatby2025
alloftheU.S.willbeusingrenewableenergy(Birt).WithalloftheUnitedStatesusing
renewableenergymostlikelyalotofworldisalsousingrenewableenergymakingitthe
mostusedenergyinthefuture.solarenergyisexpanding,by2013theuseofsolar
energyincreasedby74%(Brown).Theuseofsolarenergyisexpandingeveryyear
whicheventuallywillmakeitamainsourceofenergyinthefuture,andsinceitisa
cleanenergyitwillhelpstopairpollution.Willallthesenewtechnologiesexpandingthe
useofcleanrenewableenergywillmakerenewableenergytheenergyofthefuture.
Theeconomyreliesonfossilfuelsbeingsoldbecausetheymakeahugeprofit,
sowilltheswitchbegoodfortheeconomy?Peoplewhoowntheoilindustrieshave
enoughmoneylastthemlifetimes,butifwewenttosomealternativeenergiesthe
economycouldberuined.Overthepastyear$750,000milliondollarshavebeenspent
onpoweringhouses(Brown).Thisisonjusthousesalonenotincludingfuelingprices
forvehicles.Therearemillionsofpeoplewithnopower,butwithenoughalternative
energiesbeingproducedpowercouldbecomefree(Young).Thiscouldbeagoodthing,
butalotoftheeconomyworldwidereliesonFossilfuelsandtaxestowardthe
governmentaremostlyfossilfuelusage,soifweswitchedthegovernmentwouldlosea
lotofmoney.Usingthesunforenergyislesscostlybecausethereisnoneedtospend
moneyonshippingenergy(Williams).Thisisactuallyonebenefitofswitchingbecause
thepriceofshippingenergymadeenergypricesrisewhichwasacomplaintamong
manypeople.Theswitchfromfossilfuelstoanalternativeenergyturnsouttobemostly
badfortheeconomy,butithasbenefitsforotherthings.

Anewenergyisneededforthisworldorelsetheworldjustmightend.Things
likecarbondioxideandairpollutionwilleventuallychoketheworldtowardsitsown
demise,butpeoplehavestartedtoworkonthisproblem.Itispredictedthatby2025
alternativeenergywillgetusoutofthisdirtyageoffossilfuels(Brown).2025isten
yearsawayifwestayatthisgoalitmightbetoolate,soscientistsshouldspeedupthe
rateofchangingtoalternativeenergy.Solarenergyisgoingtobecomeanewsourceof
powertoleadtheworldtoalowcarbonfutureandhopefullyawayfromaglobalclimate
catastrophe(Williams).Eventhoughrenewableenergycanoverpowerfossilfuels,
millionsofcarsarebeingdriveneveryday(Birt).Newfueltechnologiescanprobablybe
inventedfast,iftheWorldisusingcleanenergyforelectricitythenitshouldbeeasyto
makeitforvehicles.Switchingfromfossilfuelstoanalternativeenergyisneededfor
theecosystemtosurvive.
Therearemanyupsanddownstoswitchingfromfossilfuelstoanalternative
energy,butithinktheswitchisvital.Theeconomywillhavesomehardtimes,butthatis
betterthaneverythingonEarthdyingcausingamassextinction.Iftheswitchfromfossil
fuelstoanalternativeenergyisnotmadethefutureofEarthdoesnotexist.
