MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

Students will create and publish an original movie and narrate what they find from my
video as well as other information they find on these places. Students will engage in a
higher-order of thinking and publish their work to the classroom website for other classes,
students, peers, and parents will be able to view it; these people will be able to comment
and give feedback for students to see and keep in mind.

f. White House
Brief Description of Learning Experience:
The learning standards that will be addressed are identifying important American symbols and explaining their
meanings. Students will first start by watching the video attached in my Weebly regarding the Lincoln Memorial, the
Washington Monument, and the White House, students will then form into groups and write a summary about the
information they gathered from the video. Once this is done students will write a one page paper (one per group) about
the meaning and importance of these monuments; students may also include facts they learning from the video about
these places. Students will make their own video (not exceeding 1 minute) and include at least 2 pictures that their group
drew, narrate their paper and include two websites where others may find information about these American symbols.
Their work will be published to the classroom website where peers, parents, friends and other may view the material. The
project will be orally introduced by informing them of the video and what is required of them once they have watched the
video. This activity should take no longer than two class periods. The students work will be addressed by the teacher and
graded on participation, facts, video quality and effort. Students may receive feedback from other students, peers,
teachers, and other who will be able to comment on their post via the classroom website.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?
Which indicators of Engaged Learning are strong and why?
The LoTi level of this lesson would be a 4 because students are using technology and technology is the center of this
activity, high levels of Blooms taxonomy are addressed, this model is student directed, students have their own input on
their projects, and there is stong emphasis on real-world applications.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could
the project be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other
types of technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience?
This activity could not be completed with out using technology. Students will use multimedia authoring tools to edit and
put their projects together as well as collaborate their ideas. Students may use Word to type their papers and the Internet
to find images and other facts about these places.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether
in part or whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from
others.
There were no other multimedia projects used for this project; only my created video (credits included) was used for
students to mainly work on.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet
safety and student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain
how youd minimize risks to students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and
follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy.
Possible issues regarding internet safety and student privacy include students going to inappropriate websites; this will be
avoided by informing students of the sites they are able to use, using blockers on the internet and informing parents of
this activity beforehand.
Other comments about your proposed student multimedia authoring activity:
I think students will love this activity and enjoy learning about these famous American symbols.
