Reflection
Throughout my first year of college I have grown more as a reader and a writer because
of my 114A and 114B classes. I go through my own text from my previous weebly sites and I
compare it to my readings from high school or even now in my 114B course. I am more
descriptive and I go more into depth with my work. My organization in essays is more superb
than a year ago. My research technics have grown overall and that can help me out later on in my
college career. Being able to go more in depth into a reading and visualize what the author is
portraying in a text. I am able to analyze a person, or characters behavior due to their action and
words. Being able to fight for an argument and trying to persuade a reader to do a specific task.
The only thing that I can really use some work is my grammar and spelling.
Description was key when it came to progression two in 114A. In my Jacks Munchie
Meal text, I describe every aspect of the commercial and figure out the target audience Jack in
the Box is trying to achieve. I talk about how the actor act, the items in each specific scene and
what they meant to the commercial. Being able to break down each aspect and then figure out
what they mean when they are all put together. This progression helped me with my project text
essay. In project text there were characters that needed to be described and analyzed due to their

actions and words. Their motives where determined by this and I was able to dissect it with the
help of progression two. Being very descriptive also came in handy when persuasion was
involved in progression three.
Progression three was about doing research on a subject and being able to argue about it.
I did global warming and in depth research about the subject was needed. I used the resource
given at the library from CSUN, they are more reliable and easier that Google because you can
filter out by date, and article. I learned more into depth about these three subjects as well, ethos ,
logos and pathos. This was a persuasive essay as well; I believe that with the research that I had
conducted I applied to the ethos portion of being persuasive. Pathos, the emotional appeal, when
I talked about saving the planet knowing we only have one and logos because I was consistent
and made logical statements. Project Watchmen helped in figuring out the true appeal of the
authors point.
Project Watchmen helped my ability to analyze characters, in Watchmen each character
have a different back story and that defines who they are. The morals behind their actions and
everything they do are based on what they believe in. For example one of the protagonists,
Rorschach, believes that justice should be dealt with an iron fist and people should not get away
with crimes. He deals crime his own way weather people believe in it or not. He does not say
that but with his actions and words you can tell because of it. Organization was a main part in
project space.
Project space was a group project and there were several parts to this project. Since we all
had our own individual part at the end we had to put all these parts together to make the whole
project space, we worked off each other when we need to, helping each other with there part to

complete our own. All of project space had to be organized and consistent or else we would have
false information in our presentations. Project space had to be detailed has well, the group had a
resort idea and we had to explain the layout of the building, the food there would be, the items
being sold in the gift shop and the type of entertainment there would be.
I have learned a lot taking this course and I realize it at the end. My vocabulary has
expanded compared to my train of thought since high school. I have grown a lot being a writer
and a reader thanks to this course. I will be able to take the knowledge into everyday life looking
for a job, and talking to people in society.
