A New Language Processes
Life is full of challenges, and some of them are hard to be noticed when it first
appears, lucky people who discover the hard time that they are ahead to hit. My mother
was a teacher who teaches poetry and grammar. The way she treated my brothers and I as
if we are student in her class. So, she always motivates us to read and try to write in
Arabic in a young age. In my first day in school I was excited to start my education path
since I received a home education from my mother. As I grow up I realized not only my
age is growing, also challenges are becoming harder and harder. A new language came in
my life, which was English. A new method in education has been adopted from educated
people who studied abroad to the ministry of education in Saudi Arabia. So, English is a
require course in school and I had to know a language I only knew from TV. The number
of teachers at that time was not enough to cover all schools in Saudi Arabia. I was one of
the luckiest students who got the chance to attend a school provides an English courses.
When I started taking this course, I had difficulties making a full understandable
sentence. Because the teaching method was missing the professionalism, so we studied
English in a class that was fully of flying Arabic wards.
After graduation from high school my parents insisted that I study abroad to get
an opportunity to experience a new life and relay on my self. At the beginning, I refused
that idea, but my mother was telling me this chance comes only once in life. I decided to
travel to make my parents dream comes true. I packed my clothes and prayed a lot asking
god for benevolent this decision, I felt comfortable after praying. When I arrived to the

U.S, I had difficulties communicating with people, so most of the time I was using my
hands and body expression to deliver the message and it was helpful.
In my first week at UNCC as an English trainer, I was quiet all the time.
Everything was new to me, my teachers tried to force me to speak and participate in the
class activities, but I could not because all of what was in my mind is going back to my
country. I talked to my family and they encouraged me to stay more and get involved in
the society to have a brief knowledge about the American culture. I got the chance to
meet different people with different cultures and that shocked me. After getting used to
them, I started to like the life that my parents sent me to.
After a year of learning the language I passed the requirements to get into the
college life. School seems the same all over the world, but its totally different than in my
country. The academic usage of the language was hard to non-speaker especially in the
engineering field. My first assignment in the engineering class I thought it would be easy
regarding to the question I had, but when I submitted it to my professor, I received the
lowest grade I has in my life, which was 5% out of 100%. Receiving a low grade was not
surprising as getting a harsh comment about my language and my terrible writing. One of
the comments was What Are You Trying To Say? Are You Using A Translator All The
Time? These harsh comments would encourage me to work hard and improve my

writing.

After getting this comment, I was not surprise or felt disappointed about it.
Conversely, I took this comment as the time to look back for my writing and to see where
is my weakness in my second language. I am sure that people would felt upset when they
see this comment, but if they take it as a part in their language that needs to be improved
would change their way of how to see that comment. The standard in every language can
be varying between other. It depends on how people value the language, and what the
part of the language that they see most important.
I assume that the best people who suit to be my sponsor are my parents. My
parents who helped me from the beginning are the reason in whatever I reach in future.
Whereas learning this literacy until where I am now. It helped me to have better sense of
what I want in my life, and it helped my to choose what I want to be. This literacy has
driven me from the person that had some unimportant dreams to the person who looks to
the life positively with a lot dreams.
Why English? A simple question made me think, what if I chose the useless
language? English has been used all over the global for decades and it is the only
language accredited between countries. When people from different race meet for the first

time they communicate using English until they introduce themselves. In my country, any
educated person must speak English fluently. Each person looks for a better life with
getting a higher position in career (To be or not to be). The powerful language is giving
me the opportunity to reach my dreams. From that point, I looked up for engineering
career requirements and the language was on the top of the list. Consequently, I knew
English is what I want to be in my CV when I graduate.
