Act of 1997 (House Bill 1)


The act unified Kentuckys postsecondary community colleges and

technical institutions
16 colleges located on 70 campuses
Accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)

FULL-TIME FACULTY SALARIES


Salary ranges for the following positions:
Assistant Professor $ 40,000 - $ 47,000/yr.
Associate Professor $ 46,000 - $ 49,000/yr.
Instructor $ 35,000 - $ 43,000/yr.
Professor $ 57,000 - $ 70,000/yr.

FACULTY EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


Typical educational requirements for degree level faculty are: Masters

degree with at least 18 credit hours in teaching discipline


If applicant does not have teaching experience, professional in-field

experience may be substituted


Requirements are the same for full-time or adjunct faculty position
Associates degrees may be acceptable for diploma level

courses/programs

GOVERNANCE & ADMINISTRATION

GOVERNANCE & ADMINISTRATION


Basic structural units of KCTCS are colleges, academic areas, and other

administrative units
Individual colleges are major educational units
Division is basic unit of the colleges for instruction and college community

service
Divisional structure of each college is developed by the college, approved by

KCTCS President, and reported to Board of Regents


Each college is headed by a president who reports to the KCTCS President
Each college has a Board of Directors that provides advice to the president,

Chancellor, President of the KTCTCS, and the Board of Regents

COLLEGE PRESIDENT
Chief executive officer of the college
Under general direction of KCTCS President
Charged with responsibility for administration of college
Makes sure KCTCS policies and procedures and Rules of the Senate are

enforced
Along with faculty is responsible for development and execution of
instructional programs appropriate for a community and technical college
Responsible for college curricula, quality of instruction, assignment of
duties, and services provided by faculty/staff
Responsible for college budget, for financial operation of college, and for
maintenance/operation of college

KCTCS offers over 700 credit program options
Associate degrees consists of technical (professional) degrees and

transfer degrees
Diplomas prepare a student for employment in a specific technical field
Certificates offered in various technical programs
Certificates may be completed in as little as one semester
Dual credit programs offered for high school students
Over 77 online programs available
Trained and educated more than 147,900 credit-seeking students during
2013-2014

Designed to prepare students for employment in technical fields


Requires 36 60 credit hours
Designed to prepare a student for a specific occupation

Additional training opportunities available


Students may continue their education after earning a diploma and proceed

on to earn an associates degree

CERTIFICATES
Short-term programs provides in demand, entry-level skills

Prepares students with skills expected in a occupation


Will address one or more educational competencies
Completion of some programs qualifies students to take external licensure

certification tests
Requirements for certificates may be applied to a diploma or associate

degree in a related field of study

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
DEGREES
Associates of Arts (AA)
Associates of Fine Arts (AFA)
Associates of Applied Science (AAS)
Degrees include considerable instruction in general education courses
Designed to allow transfer to a four year institution
KCTCS has articulation transfer agreements in place to assist students

completing AA, AFA, and AAS programs to transfer to bachelor degree


programs.

PLACEMENT EXAM ASSESSMENT &


PROGRAM PLACEMENT
Placement scores vary widely depending upon program of study
Minimum admission scores needed in Reading, English, and Mathematics
Scores indicate the level of academic skills required for placement in

KCTCS courses and programs


Tests may include: ACT, SAT, ASSET, COMPASS, KYOTE, TABE-A,

WorkKeys

DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION

DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION
Students with borderline placement test scores may be placed into an entry-

level college course if the course offers supplementary academic support,


such as tutoring, increased observation of students, etc.
Students with placement test scores within one domain of minimum

admission level for desired course/program may be enrolled in the


course/program if student has completed supplemental academic support
activities
Waivers may be given in certain situations
Students scoring below college readiness standards may get basic skills

assistance through Kentucky Adult Education

KCTCS offers a wide variety of community education classes
Do not have to be formally enrolled

midpoint of ones career


Over a lifetime, a graduate of an associate degree program will earn

KCTCS GUARANTEE
Guarantees graduates have demonstrated competence in skills listed on

approved task lists for occupational programs


If a former KCTCS students employer considers the person to be
underperforming below a certain level on any skill on the approved task
list, the KCTCS colleges agree to provide specific retraining at no
charge
Guarantee is valid for two years from the graduation date
Guarantee applies to all college graduates of occupational/technical
programs employed in their field of training
Enhances economic development by guaranteeing businesses and
industries accessibility to a skilled work force
