Unit Title: Found Object Installation Sculptures
Grade Level: 7th grade
Enduring Idea: Environmental Aesthetics
Rationale: There is a give and take with humans and the environment. Despite human actions;
whether negative or positive, the environment is ever changing and is a constant in our lives. We
must work to raise awareness and preserve what is left of our precious home.
Key Concepts:
The environment is always changing.
Patterns naturally occur in the environment.
Environmental awareness is needed as society progresses

Why is environmental awareness important?
2Unit Overview: Students will learn about the importance of environmental aesthetics through the
discovery of other nature artists, the creation of an artwork, and by reflecting on the changes that
occur within their own artwork.
Unit Objectives:
The student will be able to recognize how the environment is always changing through
documentation
The student will be able to create a natural/found object collage
The student will be able to reflect on the importance of environmental awareness urgency through
the objects used for the installation
Project Requirements: 5x7 inch minimum size, mounted on cardboard, incorporates found, natural,
disposed/recyclable objects
Assessment:
- Make art piece
- Write reflection
- install outdoors in designated spaces
- document changes over 3 weeks in journal
- time lapse of change

** Students will watch and document the process of decay of their artwork over the next 3 weeks.
Students will then combine all photographs into a time-lapse video showing the changes that occur
within their artwork. Students will then come together and watch/discuss each others videos. **
