Professional Development Plan
Step I: Self-reflection
Philosophy of Education
I believe every child has the ability to become something amazing. I will be the teacher that
lights a spark in each student so that he or she can see the wonderful things that they are
capable of. I will create a positive learning environment where children feel comfortable to
be themselves. I believe I can make the world a better place by motivating children and
making them realize the power of knowledge.Every learner is unique. I will tailor my
curriculum to grab the attention of all types of students in my class by using projects,
group work, and hands-on activities so everyone will feel like they have a significant role in
the classroom community. I will make sure my students have the tools to become all that they
are capable of. I will give them the courage to prove stereotypes wrong and be a unique
individual.I believe the world is one large community, and we all need to start
communicating with each other from one end of the earth to the other. If we do not do this,
sometime in the next few years this planet will not be a nice place to live. I will teach my
students about the Spanish language and the culture by showing them videos and using the
internet so they can see different parts of the culture, as well as having them research recipes
of Hispanic foods that they can prepare and share with the class. We will celebrate different
holidays as they would in a Spanish culture. The Spanish population in the United States is
growing every day, and the language barrier is shrinking. I believe those that are not learning
another language will be left behind in the near future as more and more companies are
looking to hire bilingual speakers.I will run a democratic classroom that emphasizes the
importance of student responsibility. I agree with progressivism because I believe the
students should be learning things in school that will help them change the world in the
future. The children will be held accountable for their mistakes by not only me, but by their
peers as well. I will make each student feel important and ensure that they have a voice. I will
also make certain that their voice will be heard without ridicule. This will allow the children
to blossom in their own way without feeling left out of the community. It will also prepare

them for the real world where they will need to cooperate with colleagues to get jobs done. I
learn something new every day. Some might say they knew they wanted to be a teacher since
they were ten or their entire life they knew, but not me. I have been a learner my entire life. I
still learn new things all the time because of the teachers in my life. Now I realize that in the
education field I can still keep learning new things every day, while helping children learn,
accomplish goals, and discover new things. In my eyes, there is nothing more satisfying than
that
Step II A. Description of School and Teaching, Administrative, or Pupil Services Situation

Step II B. Description of Goal to be Addressed

Goal:
Improving my classroom management skills, no matter how effective they may already be,
will benefit each of the students in my classroom. By gaining better control of my classroom,
I will build a better classroom environment for each student. This will also help students
build a better sense of respect for other students, teachers, and additional faculty within the
school.

Step II C. Rationale for the Goal: Links to Professional Situation and Wisconsin Educator
Standards
Goal:

Improving my classroom management skills, no matter how effective they may already be,
will benefit each of the students in my classroom. By gaining better control of my classroom,
I will build a better classroom environment for each student. This will also help students
build a better sense of respect for other students, teachers, and additional faculty within the
school.

Rationale for your Goal:

As a student teacher, I found that my biggest struggle in the classroom is with my classroom
management. While it may be getting better, it is still my biggest struggle in the classroom. I
have found that as my classroom management skills have increased, the students tend to
grasp concepts quicker and this allows for a more in depth study of the material.

Licensure standard(s) addressed in your plan:

Teacher:(5) The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation

and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social
interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

Teacher:(6) The teacher uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication

techniques as well as instructional media and technology to foster active inquiry,
collaboration and support interaction in the classroom.

Step II D. Plan for Assessing and Documenting the Goal

Goal:
Improving my classroom management skills, no matter how effective they may already be,
will benefit each of the students in my classroom. By gaining better control of my classroom,
I will build a better classroom environment for each student. This will also help students
build a better sense of respect for other students, teachers, and additional faculty within the
school.

I will assess my professional growth through:
