Student Learning Objective (SLO)

Goal Summary Statement


One hundred percent of students will increase by one whole scaled score (example from 1 to 2) or
more from the cold write to the On Demand writing piece.

Student or Adult Population


Twenty three out of twenty five fifth grade students were chosen for this goal. All of these students either
scored a 0, 1, or a 1.5 on their cold write opinion piece. One student is not included in this goal since she is in
home health care and is not in the classroom for direct instruction. Another student was not included because she
moved to the score after the initial data was collected.

Learning Content or Service to Students


Reading-Informational: RI.5.9: Integrate information from several texts on the same topic in order to
write or speak about the subject knowledgeably.
Speaking and Listening: SL.5.4: Report on a topic or text sequencing ideas logically and using
appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes; speak clearly at an
understandable pace.
Writing: W.5.1: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and
information. W.5.7: Conduct short research projects that use several sources to build knowledge
through investigation of different aspects of a topic. W.5.8: Recall relevant information from
experiences or gather relevant information from print and digital sources.
Social Studies: 5.B.2.c: Analyze the different roles and viewpoints of individuals and groups.

Timeline
Marking period three, Spring 2015. March 11, 2015 to March 27, 2015

Target
To increase writing stamina and student self-editing skills. To consistently demonstrate the conventions
of standard English consistent with effective editing skills. Writing will be free from errors in grammar,
spelling, and language usage. Students will be able to independently generate ideas, organize them,
write a draft, and edit and revise the draft to make it a final in forty minutes.

Evidence of Goal Attainment

On-Demand opinion writing scores will be used to determine achievement status.

Strategies
I will use writing partners, whole group mini lessons, small group mini lessons, individual writing
conferences, and Lucy Calkins text to reference different strategies.

Professional Development
Professional development that would help me in supporting this goal would be planning for
differentiated groups, setting individual goals, and teaching Lucy Caulkins.
