We Are

Project: Caring & Sharing has quickly become a driving force for the
community, providing classes to local churches, daycare centers,
schools, DCFS (Department of Children and Family Services),
Probation and DPSS (Department of Public Social Services) clients.

Our History

Project: Caring & Sharing is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3)


organization. Since 1981, Project: Caring & Sharing has provided
emergency food banks, clothing and personal hygeine item
giveaways, health fairs, back-to-school giveaways, holiday food
basket and toy giveaways to single heads of households, senior
citizens and the working poor in the Pomona and San Gabriel Valleys
and Inland Empire.

It is our desire to continue to meet the growing needs of our


communities, which will help us encompass a more holstic approach
by offering additional services such as our Academic Mentoring
Program, Family Support Classes and our Re-Entry Programs.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide high quality services to individuals (youth


and adults) and families in a safe, nurturing, family oriented,
multi-cultural, multi-age learning environment that will promote
academic excellence, promote positive self-image and educational
enthusiasm resulting in responsble productive citizens.

Our Goal

Our goal is to SAVE LIVES AND REUNITE FAMILIES. We believe


that family is the most important institution in our society. We
have accepted the challenge to strengthen two of the most vital
educating institutions: family and school.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH


EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS

Academic Mentoring Program

Designed for children and youth, ages 8 to 18, who may have
academic challenges, behavior issues, emotional trauma and/
or may have an incarcerated parent. Matches children with an
enthusiastic mentor volunteer, who serves as a role model for
students engaged in the learning process.
Our academic mentors provide tutoring services as well as serve
as a counselor and confidant to the student, ensuring the student
takes advantage of all resources that are available to help with the
learning process.
Target Group
Concentrates on, but is not limited to, foster children who may
have:
Academic challenges
Behavior issues
Emotional trauma
May have an incarcerated parent
Program Goals
To see improvement in core academic subjects.
To see a reduction in the number of unexcused absences
from school.
To see positive changes in student behavior and attitude,
anger management, self-esteem abilities, anti-social
behavior and decision-making.

Mentoring Children of Incarcerated Parents Program


A structured one-to-one relationship between a young
person, ages 8 to 17, who has one or both parents
incarcerated and a loving, caring volunteer.

Summer/Winter Day Camp


Held during the traditional
summer school breaks,
each camp provides
extensive educational and
social development
activities for children
entering the 6th, 7th, and
8th grade.

The Next Step Program

A college admission test


preparation and financial
aid assistant program.

FAMILY EMPOWERMENT
PROGRAMS

Back-to-School Giveaway Program

Children are provided with back-to-school supplies for the


upcoming school year.

Community Health & Resource Fair

Free annual health fairs are offered each year to low income and
needy families and individuals.
Community organizations and agencies are highlighted.

Food and Clothing Distribution Program

Provides overflowing emergency food boxes which are


distributed to low income and single heads of households,
senior citizens and needy individuals as needed.

Family Support Classes

A series of on-going family support classes, including parenting,


anger management, domestic violence, budgeting, tenant rights
and responsibilities classes, and life skills management training,
are offered by a variety of community organizations and advocates.
Anger Management: A 26 to 52 week class, depending upon the
needs of the individual. The classes are facilitated by certified
counselors.
Motherhood: A 26 week class that supports and prepares
mothers looking for ways to help their children cope with
fears and uncertanties that are a natural part of our world and
its many crisis situations. The groups are taught under two
different categories: married and single mothers. The classes
are facilitated by certified counselors.
Project Fatherhood: A 26 week class where fathers can deal with
and heal unresolved issues that disrupt their relationships with
their children and others. The Fatherhood cirriculum is designed
to help fathers engage and support their children and simply be
better fathers.
Single and Parenting/Strengthening Families: A 14 session,
science-based parenting skills, childrens life skills and family
life skills training program specifically designed for high-risk
families.
The Truth About Drugs: A 18 session program specifically
designed to reach young people with effective, fact-based drug
education before they start experimenting with drugs.

RE-ENTRY EMPOWERMENT
PROGRAMS

Designed to include the help of the entire community along with


local governemtn agencies, correctional agencies, businesses and
faith-based groups.
By partnering with local faith-based organizations, government
agencies and other entities who have agreed to help in this
initiative, the returning inmates are given a high chance of
succeeding in putting their lives back together. We are provided
program support by the Church of God In Christ, Inc. National
Prison.

Programs include:

Pre-Release Program: Helps provide support services prior


to their release to assure a smooth transition and speedy
placement into home, family and employment for individuals
returning from incarceration.
Post-Release Program: Provides consistent and caring
volunteer mentors to guide, support and inspire ex-offenders to
develop the attitudes and skills that will help them to become
successful in their personal lives as members of their community
and at work.
Pen Pal Ministry: Volunteers write incarcerated individuals in
prison or jail at least once a month.
