Proposal to Create a Training and Reference Manual for the

High School Student-Leadership position for Journey

Fellowship Middle School Sunday Class
Summary
The high school student leadership position does not have a Training
and Reference Manual. I have considered the need for a manual
because this position is often held by student who lack leadership
experience and who will be replaced within a few years time. Most of
the leaders in the middle school Sunday class are adults who have
leadership qualifications and do not think training is needed. This
manual can help high school student to become more effective leaders
while learning the job description.
Having been a student leader in high school for nearly all four years of
high school, it is appropriate that I write this manual from my
experience as well as with the help and guidelines of the Journey
Fellowship middle school Sunday class director. I recommend that you
give this manual proposal some thought as it may greatly increase
performance in your high school student leaders.
I can complete the rough draft by May 4th, if it is satisfactory, you will
receive the final draft on May 13th. The manual will cost my time as the
writer.
Current Problems in Middle School Sunday Class
Journey Fellowship uses many adult and high school student volunteers
in their middle school class on Sundays. It is the leaderships goal to
provide a time efficient lesson to the students in 45 minutes to an
hour; therefore all leaders need to be in synchronization in order to
maintain this essential time. The students often serve during a portion
of their high school career and leave when they graduate, this creates
a spot for new leaders to fill in spots with little to no experience.
Inexperience can result in a leader leaving his or her group of student
to ask a question while also interrupting another leaders session. This
happens because the student-leader is lacking information in:
Handling a group of students independently.
Lacking biblical knowledge when asked questions.
Lacking the ability to control or handle children who are acting
disrespectful.
Although the student-leaders should be briefed over the class content
for the day, they may encounter a question regarding the lesson or a
concept that he or she cannot answer accurately. In this situation it
would be helpful to understand the direction the church lies on the
issue before giving ones own interpretation. Another issue that could

arise is if the students become out of control, where the high school
student may not know how or to what extend to discipline or maintain
control. This manual will cover leadership responsibilities, typical class
schedule, and the churchs stance on certain issues.
Proposed Solution: A Training and Reference Manual
The proposed Training and Reference Manual will provide new
volunteers and student-leaders with the training and information to:
Handling a group of students independently.
Lacking biblical knowledge when asked questions.
Lacking the ability to control or handle children who are acting
disrespectful.
I will write the Training and Reference Manual from my experience and
will consult with your administration within the Middle school class for
technical information. The Training and Reference Manual will include
the following sections.
Qualifications
Worked with Students
o Volunteered on Middle School Sunday Class
Led in 9th grade 12th grade as solo and co-leader
Led 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys table
Worked with Faculty
o Director
Followed guidelines, timeline, rules and advise from
my director.
o Leaders
Collaborated, helped and shadowed other adult
leaders.
o Parents
Addressed and answered any questions that the
parents of my students had about the class or their
child.
Cost
My time research on teen leadership tips, writing the manual,
contacting members of the church.
Your time collaborating with me to think of possible problems to
solve and sending me materials and activities as examples.
New volunteers time new leaders will need to take the time to
read through the manual and have the director or myself for any
questions.
The time spent by all parties will increase productivity in the Sunday
classroom, therefore removing any unnecessary pauses or
questions during the crucial class time.

Conclusion
Based on the information given in this proposal it is clear that there is a
reoccurring problem with new high school volunteers leading the class
efficiently, therefore the manual which I am proposing will help your
cause. This manual will greatly decrease the amount of time wasted in
Sunday school classes, which is the most crucial element of the class
schedule. With some of your time invested in me, I will save you
precious learning time during class through the aid of this manual.
