Analysis of Learners

The students in this class are grade six students who are preparing to sit the grade six
achievement tests. The class consists of 32 students: fourteen (20) girls and one (12) boy. Most
of the students in the class are fast learners while there are a few who will take a longer time to
grasp concepts. The students generally participate in classes that are extremely interactive and

settings where the teacher uses role play and guided discovery. It has been observed that the use
of these instructional strategies make the lesson more successful than the mere chalk and talk.
The students are innately hardworking and show keen interests in their work. The students tend
to be more visual, tactile and auditory learners.

Entry competencies
Students have prior knowledge about energy conservation and the ways to conserve in the home.
The teacher will build on the students prior knowledge about the energy conservation in an
attempt to explore and calculate how much energy has been conserved over a period of time.
Learning Styles
Students learning styles vary from auditory, tactile to visual. In order to ensure that the students
actually learn, each style must be considered. Students will be given electricity bills to touch and
read, they will listen to clips and videos and will also get the opportunity to create spreadsheets
and graphs.

Selected Media, Materials and Methods

Projector: The teacher will use the projector to allow the students to view two electricity bills and
compare energy usage between the two.
Projector will also be used to view a television commercial on energy conservation.

Speakers: With the aid of speakers the students will be able to hear the clip clearly. The speakers
will enhance their learning experience

White Board Marker: This will be used to write on the white board

White Board: Each importance of using correct protocol to greet callers will be written on the
white board

Computer: students will use Microsoft excel to insert information to create a graph

Utilize Media and Material

The will check and ensure that the material that will be used during the lesson is working
properly. The teacher will also maker that the technological equipments such the projector and
the speakers are working along with other materials for teaching (white board and white board
marker). After which the teacher will preview the materials

Prepare the Environment

Before the lesson the teacher will ensure that the projector and the speakers are positioned
properly in the classroom. As the students needs to see and hear the presentation without have to
get up out of their seats or creating any unnecessary noise during the presentation as the students
are required to pay attention.

Prepare the Learners

Before the beginning of the lesson the teacher will give the students a hint of what the lesson will
be about which is energy conservation. The teacher will ask questions about energy and energy
conservation, which will give them an idea of the lesson.

Provide the Learning Experience

The teacher will show a video of two electricity bills showing the monthly cost of light,
comparing the amount of energy used on both light bills and how it is being calculated. The
teacher will also show a video of a television commercial on how to conserve energy in the
home. During and after the lesson students will be asked questions about energy conservation.

Require Learner Participation

Introductory activity
1. Students will watch an animated video of energy conservation. Students will listen keenly
as the video is played.
2. Teacher will then randomly select students from the class to say what they saw happening
in the video. Teacher will ask students what they think the lesson will be about.
3. One student from the class will be asked to sit in the speak easy chair and say how they
conserve electricity in his/her home. Responses will be written on the board. Other
students will add to the list on the board how they conserve electricity in their homes.
4. Teacher and students will discuss the importance of conserving energy in and around
their homes.
5. Two electricity bills will be projected on the board with 3 concurring electric bills for
three months. In groups of four, students will observe the electricity bills to see if the
electricity usage has been increase or decrease over the months. Each group will engage
in discussion about why they believe the charge was increased or decreased. Each group
will have a group leader who will be asked to orally describe what they have analysed
over the three month period of energy conservation to the class based on their group
discussion.
6. Groups will use the figures from the bills to create a graph to show the current usage on
the bills over the three month period. Students will then be individually asked to create a
journal entry to upload on their blog on the importance of energy conservation and also
tips for conserving energy in the home. Students will also be able to go on site to reflect
on the blog and their lives experiences, what could have been done to conserve on energy
based on what was learnt.

Evaluate and Revise

Students will be evaluated based on the accuracy of the graph over the period of six months, and
whether the student written descriptions correctly describe the conservation of energy shown on
the graph.
